Basil POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Basil steadily pulled away from the hug, placing his hand on the side of Kel's face, and wiping his tears away with his thumb. It did nothing since Kel just kept crying. Basil sighed and took a step back away from Kel and the rest of his friends, as he slowly tugged at his bandages and dug his fingernails into his arm, trying to reopen a couple of the scars that were still not fully closed up. It was a really bad habit of his, especially when he was upset. He's done it so much that they've never actually fully healed, so his arms look red and gross all the time. He started to wear long sleeves for a while so nobody would see it.
Aubrey pulled away from Kel (who then proceeded to hug Hero to cry on his shoulder) and turned around to face Basil. Her eyes widened and she quickly grabbed both of his hands, pulling them away from each other. His fingertips and bandages were soaked in blood and a little bit of it got onto her hands as well. "...Don't you ever even think about doing that again." She said, her words filled with anger and... guilt?
Basil closed his eyes tightly and turned his head to the left, half expecting her to kick him, since that was what he had gotten used to over the past couple of years. But all she did was drop his hands and pull him into a hug, letting him gently rest his head against her collarbone after he stopped tensing up all of his muscles. He lifted his arms up and grabbed onto the back of her jacket, probably staining it with spots of red. "...I-I'm sorry..."
Aubrey gently rubbed his back while she ran her fingers through his hair. "...Don't be sorry. Just... Please don't do that again... I can't let you hurt yourself anymore..." Her voice was strained, almost as if she was trying not to cry again. He felt a couple of drops of water fall against his shoulder, so he assumed that she had failed. She let out a choked sob in his ear. He felt horrible. This was all his fault anyways, wasn't it?
He looked to his left, where most of the crowd had dispersed, and he caught a quick glimpse of Sunny's body as he was getting loaded into the ambulance.
And it was horrifying.
Even though he only had a quick look before he quickly stared back at the floor, desperately trying to get the image out of his mind, he could have sworn he saw Sunny's eyes open, even if there wasn't anywhere for them to be within the mangled mess of his skull.
Just like with Mari whenever he looked down at her body on the floor. Or when he turned around to make Sunny stop looking when he stopped following behind him.
Basil felt the tears falling from his eyes, the feeling of a hand on his shoulder startling him. The one it belonged to stepped out from behind Aubrey, the monster becoming visible in front of him. It looked like Sunny in a similar hospital gown to his own, except about twice as tall, and half of his face was covered in a dark shadow despite it being illuminated by its halo that was dripping blood. His limbs were severely broken and detached from his body, floating slightly out of place from where they should be. Sunny - or rather, this... thing supposed to look like Sunny - reached out its hand and gently placed it on Basil's cheek before lowering it and wrapping his fingers around his throat. Black angel wings spread out from his back, feathers covering the floor as a maniacal smile spread across his face. "Awww... Why so scared? You knew this would happen eventually. Making me keep a secret like that. You're selfish... So, so selfish... None of this would have happened if you never waltzed into my life. I hate you, Brooke... I hate you so much..."
