Chapter 8

I was in my room when my mum received the phone call.

It was an early morning on a Saturday and I was on my bed staring at the ceiling. I sighed. I bored out of my mind.

My mum opened my door and entered my room with her phone in her hand. "Veronica's mum called. She says that you're invited to Veronica's house for a sleepover today."

"R-Really?" I stammered, confused. Veronica had never invited me over before. We barely even talked!

"Yes." My mum said with a shrug. "Now get your things ready. Dani is taking you there in half an hour."

"Yes mum." I whispered and watched as she strolled out of my room, closing my door.

Dani took me to Veronica's house and dropped me by the front door. "Be good." Dani reminded with a small smile.

"I will!" I replied with a grin, clutching my bag tightly.

"I'll see you soon, Rain." Dani whispered before going back to her car and driving off.

I turned to the front door of Veronica's house and rung the doorbell. Veronica flung the door open, "Hey Rain!" She pulled me in for a small hug before tugging me inside. She led the way down a long hallway and up some stairs until we reached her room. "I begged my mum to buy me lots of snacks like popcorn, crisps and gummy bears.. Oh! And I also have loads of movies for us to watch tonight!" Veronica continued to babble on about how great it was that I was over.

I only half-listened. Most of my thoughts were on whether I had packed enough clothes. I rarely went on sleepovers, so I wasn't entirely sure what to bring.

"Rain?" Veronica waved her hand in front of my face. "You okay?"

"Y-yeah." I nodded.

"Hm.. Why don't we go swimming? You brought your swimsuit right?" Veronica asked as she headed towards her closet.

"Um.. no I didn't bring it." I placed by bag down by her bed and sat next to it.

"Oh, that's ok. You can borrow one of mine." Veronica smiled and brought out two bikinis. A hot pink one and a blue one. "Choose one."

I would have prefered a swuimsuit but I didn't mind bikinis. "The blue one please." I reached for the blue bikini and Veronica nodded, handing it to me.

Once we had our bikinis on, we ran downstairs with our towels and out into Veronica's garden. We took out a couple of floaties and jumped into the pool.

So far, the sleepover seemed really fun.
