•This is something that I discovered just recently and found extremely interesting. Background Capgras Syndrome or DMS is a psych disorder that involves something very scary. People with Capgras have full awareness that what they tell people sounds crazy, but they are still intently focused on the fact that they believe they are correct.

•Background Capgras Syndrome is a disorder that causes the person to feel as if all of their closest loved ones have been replaced with sadistic imposters. It's really a terrifying thing to experience.

•This is an extremely rare disorder and people with Capgras have been wrongly diagnosed as Schizophrenics many times. Capgras can also appear in some cases of Dementia or Alzheimer's.

SYMPTOMS:

Symptoms of DMS include fear, confusion, anxiety, impulsive violence towards the "imposter" (in some cases), belief in a doppelgänger, obsessions with finding the "real" person, etc.

TREATMENT:

Treatment of DMS consists of visiting a mental health professional before taking direct action on your own. Cases of DMS are always different for each person, so it's important to complete an accurate evaluation. Most of the time, the best option is validation therapy. This directly addresses and accepts the delusions while setting up a comfortable and safe space for the person to recover. With this disorder, recovery might not be possible. The most important thing is comfort and understanding for people who are suffering. This is a terrifying thing to experience. If left untreated, it will most likely grow to the point where the person would become a severe danger to themselves and others.
