Today's Task: Talk about a time in which you hung out with a friend or co-worker who was another race and noticed him or her (or yourself) experiencing judgment based on race. How did this make you feel and did you do something about it?

Small minds
Trust false truths
So quickly
Corrupting youth

You can be eighteen
You can be six
You can be anywhere
But lies can still mix

—Within your spirit
May not be your source
Parents, neighbors
But it comes from a force

Like Leslie and Brianna
Best friends from before
Regardless of skin cause
crayon colors mattered more

Brianna pulled us aside
Just to play, heaven forbid
Cause Leslie's eyes were sharp
Said she couldn't play with black kids

Brianna melted inside
With tears flowing down
Even if we were in 3rd grade
She knew, Leslie only saw brown

Not her smile
Not her face
Not her laughter
Not her taste

I stepped to the front
Asked why she was so mean
Her parents just wanted
For her to "stay clean"

'Snitch' they called me
For going to the teacher
With the words of a bystander
But standing as a leader

The teacher got the whole class
To teach us a new lesson
Not math or science
But something about skin

Skin is beautiful
Skin is imperfect
To hold a different skin;
A different story is worth it

Leslie hugged Brianna
Said sorry right there
But I saw in Brianna's eyes
Realizing life wasn't fair
