To my engaged readers...this one's for you.

"Everyone!" Sanchez says into a megaphone. "Stand in number order now!" Every prisoner in STD is assigned a number to make headcounts easier. I'm No.87.

We all stand in our order and Sachez starts using the megaphone to call out the number.

"Number 1"

"Present."

"Number 2."

"Present."

"Number 3"

"Present."

"Number 4."

"Present."

"Num-"

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah yada yada yada yada yada yada.

"Number 86."

"Present."

"Number 87."

"Gift." I say with a monotone voice

Everyone sniggers at my comment although it was never meant to be funny while Sanchez simply ignores it.

Once he's done with the headcount of 376 people, including the boys, he goes right back to the middle of the line.

"Before you all go back, I have an announcement to make." He says. "There will be visitors coming to the prison in exactly a week's time. So for the next week, we will be making decorations for them, as they are very important."

"As much authority as you have, Sanchez?" I mutter under my breath. "Whoever they are, they don't sound like they have much but authority nonetheless."

"Quiet there, number 87. Don't even try to deny that you weren't saying something about my authority!"

I close my mouth. I'm quite surprised he heard that being so far away from me.

"As I was saying, these visitors are very important, so everything must be amazing. I repeat, amazing. They will be here for the whole day."

You could hear a pin drop in all the silence.

"Any questions?" He asks.

A hand raises up.

"Yes number 17."

"Who are these visitors?" Number 17 asks.

"You'll see." He responds in a smug tone because he's looking directly. At. Me.

And for some reason, that terrifies me.

Another very short chapter but oh well. What do you guys think of he book so far? And who do you think these very important visitors are?
