Once I've brushed my teeth, I stare at myself in the mirror. I look at my brown hair and eyes and the huge scar running across my left one. I look down at my arms, which have all the scars from knife spinning.
Who am I? Am I really who I say I am?
But my thoughts are interrupted.
I've been in the bathroom questioning my life choices for around 10 minutes when suddenly I hear something.
Singing.
I slowly turn the door handle and open the door. And I hear voices coming from the room straight down the corridor.
I slowly walk towards it and the memories hit me like a hurricane.
Because I've just poked my head around the doorframe, only to find Alina in bed with Hayleigh holding her in her arms and Abuela standing in front of them singing 'Somewhere Only We Know'.
I don't do anything, just hide there and listen to them sing the song that I practically grew up with.
And I can't seem to stop looking.
As much as I try to tell myself to look away I can't, I'm under a curse.
But I finally do.
When I'm sure, double sure and triple sure they're not looking at me I slip, unseen, back into Hayleigh's bedroom where a spare bed has been set up and is where I'll be.
I lay on the bed and play around with my elemental abilities. You know, form things out of water, stuff like that. It's something I've always liked doing out of habit.
I conjure a fish out of water with one hand and let it swim around in the air. Then I conjure another fish, one made of fire and let both of the fish swim around toge-
"Oh, there you are."
I look over and see Hayleigh standing in the entrance of the doorway.
"Yeah." I simply say and go back to the fire and water fish swimming around. Suddenly I feel part of the mattress sink a little next to me and Hayleigh is sitting next to me.
"Y'know I'm really glad you're here, Maddie." She says softly.
I look at her and then back down at the floor. For some reason I'm cool with her calling me that. "Well, I gotta admit, this has been kinda fun."
She smiles at me and I smile back.
She suddenly looks at the clock on the wall. "Well I guess we oughta head off to bed now."
I look at the clock too. "Yeah."
I sit up and she kisses my forehead, something I was not expecting her to do. "Night, Maddie." She whispers.
When I don't answer her she just turns off the light, crawls into her own bed and goes to sleep.
I put my hand on my forehead where she kissed. "Night, Hayleigh." I say in my tiniest whisper and crawl into bed and sleep.
Wholesomeness twin overload :)))))))). Also spoiler alert, there will be major drama in the next chapter so stay tuned.
What do you think will happen in chapter 18?
