Another death.
There's been another death last night. Some chick named Delaney, she was killed in her kitchen and the only evidence the police could find was a hole in her chest (she was most likely stabbed), a bloody ipad playing Taylor Swift and more bloody cookies sitting on the countertop.
But for some reason I have that strange feeling again, like the one I had of the death of Chris Parker, deja vu of some sort. But I've never been there and I didn't kill anyone...
Right?
"It's a terrible world isn't it?" Hayleigh's saying when she, Alina and I are in the car on our way to school.
"Yeah," I say quietly, "tragic, real tragic."
"Guys?" Alina says quietly. "Why do people kill other people?"
Me and Hayleigh look at her in surprise.
"Um..." Hayleigh says and genuinely looks speechless. "Because-"
"Because people think it's the only answer to their problems, kid." I say to her.
"Really? I thought it was because people are mean?"
"It could be. But it could also be because people don't know what else to do. Or it could be completely unintentional, like if someone just meant to go on a drive...because them and someone else got into an argument and the other person said something mean to the other person and that someone...ended up dying." I miss you mom and dad. I'm sorry...
Hayleigh must've realized where this was heading because at that exact moment she randomly blurted out "We're here!".
"Hay," I say and look at her like she's mad, probably because in this moment in time, she is. "If by here you mean in front of a corner shop then yes, we are here."
She looks frantically at what I'm talking about and sinks closer into her seat and goes slightly red. "Yeah of course I knew that," she mumbles. "I was just practicing for when we actually arrive in school."
Me and Alina share a look. "Uh-huh."
When we get to Alina's school she asks if I can drop her off because Hayleigh has a student council meeting (must be why she randomly shouted 'we're here!'). I said ok and we're both walking towards the front gate.
"Who's your favourite My Little Pony character?" she asks.
"Um, I, well, it's actually-"
She suddenly looks concerned. "Was that too personal? Oh, goodness, I'm so sorry. You see Hayleigh told me when you and her were younger you used to have that show on repeat. I watch it too, my favorite's Pinkie Pie."
"She's good." I say. "But I prefer Rainbow Dash."
"Why?"
I shrug my shoulders. "She's cool. Why d'ya like Pinkie Pie?"
She suddenly has that cute grin of hers again. "Because she always knows how to make her friends laugh and puts smiles on peoples' faces! And Hayleigh said if I could be any pony, I would probably be her." She looks at me again. "But seriously, the only reason you like RD is because she's 'cool'?"
It's at this moment that I realize how nice the floor is, so nice that I admire it while saying, "Well, um, not really..."
"What do you mean 'not really'?"
A sigh. "Kid, I'm gonna tell you something but if you tell anyone else, I'm gonna deny it, ok?"
"Ok..."
"When me and Hayleigh were younger, we used to think what character we would be. I was Rainbow Dash and she's Fluttershy and then we'd always run around the house calling ourselves 'The Pegasuses' because we didn't know that's not actually a word. Good times."
"Yeah. How sentimental."
That wasn't Alina.
Because standing there in front of the classroom is Colette and her little sister.
And guessing by the way Alina is cowering behind me, she's not good news.
