Life
"Ràng wǒmen xiān kāishǐ xièzài jīnqiāngyú (Let's start unloading the tuna first)."
"Wǒmen zuótiān zhuāle hěnduō (We caught a lot yesterday)."
I woke up when I heard voices, and it was already morning.
I remembered that last night, after swimming by the ocean for about three hours, I found a fishing vessel. I then hid there and dozed off because of exhaustion.
I don't really know where I am, but I'm sure those fishermen are speaking Chinese, and the boat is already at the dock.
"Dǎrǎo yīxià (Excuse me)..."
The farmers just all stared at me. I then realized that they may be Chinese but have a different dialect because, based on the scenery around me, I'm sure I'm in a rural area.
"Zhè shì shénme chéngshì (What city is this)?"
"Chéngshì (City)?" A much younger farmer talked to me.
I nodded.
"Yúnnán." Sagot niya.
This is my first time here, but I know Yunnan is a landlocked province in the southwest of the People's Republic of China, and they are known for their varied landscape, such as snow-capped mountains, rice terraces, lakes, and deep gorges.
Sa ngayon, kailangan ko munang maghanap ng matutuluyan at saka ko pag-iisipan ang susunod na gagawin...All I know is that I cannot stay for too long.
"Xièxiè (Thank you)."
I'm grateful that I could speak other languages because when I asked an elderly woman for food and shelter in exchange for helping them at their rice terraces, they agreed and helped me even if I was a stranger to them.
After twenty days, I decided to leave Yunnan on a ferry that would take me to Macau. I worked at a small hostel there as a janitress in exchange for a little bit of money and free accommodation.
Yes. I've already been pregnant since I left the Philippines, and I just found out about it after almost two months.
