Virgil's P.O.V

"Have you finished those reports Virgil?" a friendly voice asks.

I look up at my boss. Rowena Callea.

"Yes. I have them right here. I was going to bring them to you in the morning since I had assumed you'd gone home," I say and open the drawer next to me.

It doesn't take me long to pull out what I was looking for.

"My date canceled on me. Figured I'd get some work done so I stayed a bit longer," she says with a sigh.

"Sorry to hear that," I say. She smiles at me.

"Have you finished with the latest expense report?" she asks.

"Finishing it up now," I respond.

"When you're done you can go ahead and head home," she tells me.

"I'll do that," I say with a nod.

"Goodnight Virgil," she says and walks off.

"Night," I say and turn back to my computer.

Half an hour later I finally finish up.

"Finally," I mutter.

I save everything before turning off my computer. With a sigh, I grab my bag and head out. I reach the elevator and push the button for the first floor. It takes a long minute to reach it since I'm on the 28th floor. When the elevator doors open I step out. Then I leave the building. I have to walk home since I don't have a vehicle and my bike is currently out of commission. I suppose I don't mind though. It's only a few blocks.

I would listen to music but it's late. Although this isn't a particularly bad neighborhood, I like to be able to hear my surroundings. Just in case someone does try anything I'll likely hear them before they can do anything. If it happens, I'll run.

I'm almost home. Another block and I'll reach my building. I'm walking down the sidewalk when I spot a woman on the road.

"What the hell?" I mutter.

I stop and turn to fully look at her. She looks intoxicated. I better help her. I look both ways before stepping out onto the street.

I get a few feet away from her when I hear a car horn. I turn to see a car coming towards the woman and fast. I run and push her out of the way. I'm not fast enough myself though.

The next moment I find myself lying on the floor. I can hear people talking but they sound a million miles away. I take a breath but it's hard. I hurt all over so I can't move. The night sky is the last thing I remember before I see a light.

After a moment I'm looking up at a beautiful young woman.

"He's perfect," the woman says.

I try to speak but all that comes out is wordless babble. Where am I? What happened?

"His magic is strong too for such a small thing," a man says next.

"Have you come up with a name yet?" a new woman asks.

"Virgil," the first woman and man say at the same time.

"Beautiful name. I'll give you two a moment," the second woman says.

"Have you looked yet, Ethan?" the first woman asks.

"Not yet. I'll look now. Give him to me Marie," the man says.

"Here," the woman, Marie, says.

"Alright. Let's see your future little one," the man says.

I guess he's Ethan. I'm looking up at him. He's a nice-looking guy. I watch as his eyes turn white and he gets a faraway look.
