Roman's P.O.V

I'm sitting under a tree near the clearing and using my search magic just to be safe. Where I am I can see the castle. The night seems to drag on. There's no sign of Virgil. I want to head to the castle and find him but I made my friends and brother a promise. I force myself to stay put.

Hours pass by. I push down the need to go and find him even further. When I see the sun start to rise I put my head in my hands.

"I'm sorry Virgil," I say softly. I glance at the castle to see it one last time but I immediately stand up.

"That's not good," I say. There's a bunch of knights and they look like they're coming this way.

"Fuck!" I say.

I turn and start to run. If they have anyone who can use search magic they'll be able to spot me. That's especially true if they have as much magic as Virgil. I should be far enough away though so I run. I run for as long as I can.

Half an hour later I have to stop to catch my breath. Using my search magic I look for anyone who may have followed me. Nothing. Good. I slow my pace to catch my breath. Looking back makes my heart hurt.

They must've found the potion before Virgil. How though? Maya never said that anyone other than Virgil would go into his room. It was late at night so I doubt it was a servant. How the hell did they find it? Did Virgil invite someone into his room? No. I doubt it. The others were gone.

Thinking about this isn't helping me. It happened. All we can do now is figure out another way to help him. I have one potion left. I'll get it to him. Somehow.

It takes me a couple of days to return to Arina's home. As I approach I  slow to a stop. I can't believe we went through all this and still haven't gotten Virgil back. I mean I'm glad we could help the others but the whole point was to save Virgil. With a heavy sigh, I make my way to the house and knock on the door. I'm surprised when Arina opens it.

"Why are you still here?" I ask her.

"Maya hasn't returned yet. Have you seen her?" she says and asks in return.

"Sorry. No. You need to leave though," I tell her.

"Where are the others?" I also ask.

"We're here," Remus says. He and the others come up from the basement. Kaya is with them.

"Where's Virgil?" Patton asks hopefully.

"He never showed up. Instead, there were knights sent out. They must've found it," I say to my friends. Then I look at Arina to say, "I'm sure they'll be coming here soon to look for Kaya. You should leave. When I go back I'll see if I can find Maya. Does she know where to find you?"

She and Kaya look at each other.

"She does," Kaya says.

"Then you should leave. I don't think it's safe here anymore," I tell her.

"Mom, he's right. Maya's smart she'll make her way to us," Kaya says to her mom.

Arina looks troubled but ultimately nods. She walks over to a bag on the counter. I watch her pull out a pendant. It's a small circular piece of metal on a black string.

She walks back over and hands it to me.

"This is for your friend. As long as he wears it he'll be invisible to anyone trying to find him. Good luck," she says.

"Thank you," I say as I take it.

She and Kaya pack up the little bit of stuff they're taking. They store most of it using Kaya's alternative dimension storage magic.
