Roman's P.O.V

We continue on the road through the woods. The canopy of trees is getting thicker which means it's getting darker. The six of us stay close together as we go further in. Eventually, the trees start to make way and the midday sun pokes through. As we keep moving we notice a clearing up ahead. In the clearing is a nice but old house. It's made up entirely of wood except for the chimney I see on top. There are flowers everywhere. It's quite nice looking.

"This place is beautiful," Ollie says. Everyone nods in agreement. We slowly make our approach.

We get about 15 feet from the house when the door opens. Out walks a woman carrying a basket.

"She's beautiful," Ollie says softly. Objectively speaking, yes, she is. She's older. She's around the age my mom would be if she was still alive, but still beautiful. She sees us and her mouth opens in slight surprise. Then after a moment, she smiles.

"Hello," she says. Even her voice is beautiful.

"Who might you be?" she asks. I share a look with my brother and friends. When they all nod I respond to her.

"We're from Agberge," I tell her. Her smile fades and she has a serious look.

"Follow me," she says as she sets the basket aside...

She walks back inside. Again we all share a look. With a nod from the others, we make our way closer to the house. We walk up the path and up to the front door. I only hesitate a moment before opening the door. Then I walk inside. The others follow. The house looks bigger on the inside. It's a nice place.

"We weren't expecting so many of you but I think you'll find the basement a suitable place to sleep," the woman says.

"I'm sorry but I need to be sure. Are you the one who left me that note?" I ask her. "No. That was my daughter, Maya," she responds.

"Why did she leave him the note?" Logan asks.

"When she found out that one of you managed to fend off the mages sent from Deonem the first time she decided to ask for your help," she explains.

"Our help? We're only here to get our friend back," Janus says.

"I'm afraid I have nothing else I can tell you other than helping us will help save your friend," she says and gestures to the basement.

We all hesitate. What if this is a trap? Why, though? What could they get from taking nobles? Money? That doesn't make sense. Deonem is incredibly wealthy.

"If you feel better staying up here that's fine," she says.

"What's down there?" Remus asks. She smiles and starts to head down herself. After another moment of hesitation, I follow her. The others follow me. When we get to the bottom we see that it's been remade into a large bedroom. I look at her curiously.

"We felt it was safer to have you all down here just in case someone came asking questions," she explains.

"Like who?" Patton asks.

"Anyone. We must be as cautious as we are able. If anyone was to find out my daughter and I are helping nobles from a rival kingdom then we could be executed," she tells us.

"We understand but make no mistake that the moment any of us feel we are in danger we will find a way out," I tell her. She nods in understanding.

"I'll be making supper soon. You're welcome to roam the house and property but do be cautious if you go outside. There's a well behind the house and a tub in the shed. You're welcome to use it. My name is Arina Carnet by the way," she tells us with a smile.
