Virgil's P.O.VRoman and I walk in silence back to the manor.
"I'll see you tomorrow when you're done with your work. Remember that you made me a promise," he says when we get inside.
"Alright," I say.
I quickly walk away and curse myself for being shy. I refuse to ponder why. With a sigh, I make my way back to my room. I take my bag off my shoulder and set it on the bed before I sit next to it. I pull out the book I bought in the nearby market when I went with Patton. Then I pull out my quill and ink bottle that I bought with it to set on my little table. I flip open the book to the first page.
I'm not a fantastic artist but I can draw. So the week after I started working here I began heading to the forest to find spots to draw. I go every day after I finish my work and on my days off. Each day I find a new spot and draw it. I found it difficult at first, to draw with a quill pen. I'd kill for a pencil. I got used to it though. I started making fewer mistakes and could finally get the picture exactly how I wanted it to look. I want to try my hand at painting but I can't afford the brushes, let alone the paint. One day.
I have work tomorrow. I'm glad I work from morning to midday. I was surprised when I realized that they even had different shifts. I had assumed I'd be working all day long. I'm grateful I was wrong.
Now... Master Roman. Why would he offer to accompany me? Is he just that nice of a person? Probably. I've seen him interact with various servants and he was always kind. I've even heard the staff talking about how good Roman was. They said Remus was the same but also a troublemaker. I've heard a few things about the eldest of Rowen's sons, Redrick. All good things. Roman however seems to be everyone's favorite. Maybe I shouldn't look for him. I doubt he'll come looking for me.
I did promise him though. I hate the idea of breaking a promise when they are so important. Ugh! I know! I'll do a simple search but if I don't find him then I can just go. I'll be able to say I at least tried. That's what I'll do. A knock on my door gets my attention.
"Come in," I call out. The door opens and it's Patton.
"Are you busy?" he asks.
"Not really," I say.
"Do you think you could help me with this book? I keep coming across words that I don't know. I tried to sound them out but that worked only a few times," he asks.
"Sure," I say with a smile.
"Let's go outside. It's a really pretty day," he says. I nod and stand up.
We make small talk as we're walking.
"Did you find anything good to draw today?" he asks.
"Yeah. A spot by the river. I'll show it to you," I say. "I did have an incident on my way back though," I add.
"What happened?" he asks. So I tell him all that happened.
"Oh my gosh! Are you okay? How did you get away?" he asks with worry.
"Master Roman saved me," I tell him.
"Really?!" he exclaims.
"Yeah. Killed it with his magic," I explain.
"Good thing he was there. Maybe I can come with you from now on," he suggests.
"Well... Master Roman is going to accompany me from now on. He insisted," I say. He looks at me. Probably to see if I'm joking but I just shrug.
"Well isn't that something? Well I'm glad you'll have someone to protect you," he says and I nod.
I told Patton and Ollie a few days after I started that I didn't have any magic. Of course, I didn't get into detail but I told them. It's not a secret but I wouldn't have said anything if Ollie hadn't asked. It was a normal day and he simply asked me to help him dry things faster using wind magic. I had to tell him. Patton showed up to scold Ollie so I ended up telling him too.
