The clock struck seven. It was time for the test. Me, Katie and Tristan stood and talked excitedly about what we might have to do to get into the school. Tristan and I agreed that it would be some kind of knowledge test for the teachers to find out how strategic we were.

But Katie believed something completely different. She thought that everything was about getting to know your Mystic and managing to cooperate with each other.

It turned out to be both parts. We would be partly strategic and partly trying to bond with our Mystic, create a relationship.

We walked in one by one in a room where the teachers as well as Mr. Brock sat at a long-table. The whole scenario was shown at the big tv-screens outside, so that everyone would get to see what their competition was. It was very fascinating to see everyone's abilities. Many had really cool ones, they could control electricity, the weather and the four elements. Honestly, I had no idea what my ability could possibly be. Hopefully nothing too boring and useless.

Alastor had gone into rest, so I stood there by myself, without any animal company.

Katie was in first of the three of us. She seemed to be doing very well with her ability to make things float. She had developed it so much that she could even make herself and others do the same. She demonstrated this by using professor Carlton as guinea-pig. He tried to act mad, but deep down he laughed hysterically when she made him hang upside down in the air.
After making him spin a few laps, she set him back down on solid ground. Then she spun a few laps herself to thank for the performance.

When she came out to us, she was beaming. She herself thought that it had gone as well as it could and she was still quite sure that she would pass.

After Katie it took a while before it was Tristan's turn. I had already got used to the fact that I would come quite far down the list because I was born quite late in December.

Tristan could talk with and control the dead, which was cool. It was an ability I would love to have. He also did very, very well and I would be surprised if he didn't make it through.

Between me and Tristan it was Jake. I was certainly not surprised that he could turn into a big black mass. He filled the sky with a darkness so black I would have thought it was a solar eclipse if I didn't know who caused it. He coiled around like a snake, hence his Mystic.

After Jake's show it was my turn. I was nervous, I had no idea what my ability could possibly be. If I even had one... I actually didn't know that.

I walked into the room with a lump in my throat that just grew and grew with every step I took. I had no idea what was going to happen, what I was supposed to do. I could hardly breathe, I was so nervous.

I stood in the middle, on the round dot that had to act as a guide. I swallowed deeply, glancing between the teachers. I noticed Liam joined them at the table, which was a little surprising.
"Hello, Aline," greeted Mr. Brock. "You may begin."
