Simon went out of forge. He had received his order in less than an hour. The blacksmith had been really enthusiastic about the work, and had carefully followed Simon's description to the letter. Even the little blue topaz on the handle was there. The smith had really done a fantastic job. The wind blew in Simon's hair as he walked back the way he had come. The weather had worsened in the short time he had spent in the cabin. The autumn leaves followed the wind where they were asked to go. Simon hastened his steps, all the while keeping a firm grip on the dagger he had produced. He began to regret leaving the scarf at home. He had actually considered taking it. It was November. But he hadn't, and it was his own fault that he now needed to pull the jacket up as far as possible. He hurried up the steps some more, half running out onto the main road that joined the path that disappeared further and further away behind him. Simon was surprised that it took as little time as it did to get to the little cabin. It was very close to the border. The border over to the ordinary world.
Simon crept up to the place where the border was weakest, the part used as an entrance and exit. Not many people knew about it. It was basically just him and his family. Of course he had told Liam when they started getting closer. They had promised to keep no secrets, and Simon intended to keep that promise.
When he came out into the "ordinary" world, it was only a couple of hundred meters before he was home again.
