--------------------------------------
Everything was a blur, no one really knew what was happening. Explosion after explosion sounded, rocking the very earth below. Usopp couldn't concentrate, despite having Kabuto ready to fire, he couldn't bring himself to look away from the person laying lifeless on the ground.
He could faintly hear the sound of the others fighting, screaming at Usopp to pay attention and get his head in the game. Why was it so hard? his feet felt frozen in place, fingers unable to move, stuck in a forever stance of readying his slingshot.
Why was the person he was staring at so important? He couldn't remember why, the shock from everything has left him confused. All he knew was that he couldn't bring his eyes off the person laying still on the ground, dirtied and bloody.
Was that their own blood or the enemies?
Why did it matter? Who was that?
Sucking in a breath, a sick form of clarity washed over him as he realized.
That person was you.
A broken scream sounded from him, dropping his slingshot he stumbled forwards, tripping over his own legs. He struggled, kicking up dirt as he desperately crawled towards you. He could hear Zoro yelling at him, but couldn't understand. All that mattered right now was getting to you, making sure you were okay.
Everything around him slowed as soon as he got a good look at your face, blood was leaking from your nose and the corner of your mouth. You weren't breathing, eyes closed and completely unresponsive. He grabbed at your face, leaving stains of dirt and smearing your own blood.
He tried shaking you, wanting at least some kind of answer, wanting to know that you were okay. But he never got one. You stayed still, hanging limply in his arms, your body already felt like it was growing cold.
Usopp wrapped his arms around your torso, lifting you against his bare chest he rocked you back and forth in his arms. He was whispering to himself, telling you that you were going to be okay.
That was a lie.
He knew you weren't going to be okay, you were gone.
He was lying to himself.
No, that wasn't true.. He was not lying. Chopper would be able to help right? Chopper was the greatest doctor he knew..
He wanted so badly to believe the lie he was telling himself, to believe that you were still holding on somewhere in there. But the lack of breath falling from your lips, the feeling of your body growing colder by the second.
He curled himself around you, not wanting to let go.
