'Thoughts'

Sarge was a simple man. He may live a complex life, but deep down, he was a simple man. He grew up wanting to protect people from those who mean to harm them.

Sarge decided to join the military, since the training and discipline would help him be ready for any fight.

His father told him that you have to dress for the job you want. If someone wants to be an office manager they wear suits. Sarge decided to take it a step further, and rename himself.

Sarge had always wanted to have a family, a child he could tell stories to. Teach what he had learned. Show him the proper way to live.

So he decided to have it all. He could protect people and have a family. Heck, he could even protect his family! So he found a nice girl and got married and threw himself in the ODST drop troopers since they see a lot of action. He was away from the nice girl which interfered with having a son and his work in ODST became complicated as he developed a fear of heights after 7 years of service. He learned about his wife having a child named Boomstick. He couldn't have been more proud.

He hopes that one day, he can see him. He could teach the boy the proper way to build vehicles, how to order people around and how to properly snap necks in less than a second.

And today...

Was not that day.

"So, just you and me hanging out at the base today, huh Sarge! This is new.'' Donut said to Sarge. Sarge had often avoided being left alone with Donut because he didn't want to hear him ramble on about nonsensical things. Like, 'What shade of red goes with my armor?' 'How about we repaint the base in burgundy.' or even, 'Hey Sarge, can we make the Blues agree to a truce so we can have a finger painting contest?'

That one irked him to no end.

"I notice you use a shotgun. That's cool. I just use this pistol. It works for me." Donut said as he began to whistle.

Sarge thought about shooting him many times. Mostly because of his constant, unintentional, innuendos. Like the one about him liking pelicans.

Ugh.

"So, you think the guys will be back soon? What do you think they're up to? Do you think they stopped at the store? I noticed we were getting pre-tty low on elbow grease." Sarge decided to just ignore him. Sarge knew that Donut was a nice person, but Donut just didn't know when to shut up.

"...When you die, can I have your armor?" Donut asked.

'If Grif and Simmons don't come back in the next ten seconds,' Sarge thought to himself, 'Or if the Blues don't attack, I'm just going to kill him. No one would need to know. No one.'

"Hey, we're back!" Simmons called as he and Grif walked up the ramp on Red base. It would seem that Donut would get to live another day. 'Goodie.'

"Oh man, am I glad to see you guys! Sarge would not stop talking. Seriously." Donut said.

"Grif, Simmons, were you able to work out a suitable exchange?" Sarge said, hoping that something fruitful came from this day.

Simmons sighs. "Uhh, not exactly sir. You see, when we showed up the Blues were doing something, REALLY weird and then w-"

"Really weird! And they were rude!" Grif interrupted.

"Hey dumbass, I thought we agreed I was gonna tell the story." Simmons said in annoyance, turning to Grif.
