I could feel it when her body left my bed. I wasn't fully awake yet but my senses alerted me that she was gone. I suddenly felt empty and cold, like a part of me had been ripped away. I couldn't sleep after that, but my body was too exhausted to actually get up. After practically spending all night inside of her, my body needed time to recover. Last night had easily been the most emotionally taxing sexual encounter I had ever fucking experienced. It wasn't just sex, I didn't just fuck a distraction into her. It was way more than that and we both knew it. If I knew Maggie at all, she was probably freaking the fuck about it.
I almost figured she had probably ordered herself an Uber sometime in the middle of the night, but when the faint smell of sugar and cinnamon wafted through the bedroom, I realized she was still here. When consciousness overcame me and I began to focus more on my surroundings, I realized that if I listened closely enough, I could hear her clattering around in my kitchen and cooing at Murphy in the distance.
I struggled to peel my eyes open, but that damn smell was too overpowering to ignore. Plus, my fucking stomach was practically eating itself. Half the reason I'd even suggested ordering a pizza last night was that I hadn't eaten either, but when all Maggie wanted to do was get in my bed, I could do nothing but follow her, despite how uneasy I felt about spending the night with her. I wasn't sure how I would control myself, but I couldn't say no to her. I took a shower only to put some distance between us so I could pump one out before I was forced to share a bed with her. I didn't think she'd want anything to do with me after what went down at the clubhouse and finally coming to terms with what Zack did to her, but weirdly, I think yesterday's events made her want me more— and shit I wasn't complaining. This thing I had for Maggie was more than just the physical stuff and maybe now it was for her too.
I forced myself out of bed and into my bathroom only long enough to splash cold water on my face and brush my teeth before that smell was guiding my feet straight for the kitchen. My stomach was grumbling as I padded my way down the hallway and followed that glorious fucking aroma.
"Come on, Murph," Maggie groaned. "I already gave you three treats."
Murphy was scratching at Maggie's legs begging for food while she stood at the stove and flipped a piece of what looked like French toast.
"Never give Murph treats while you're cooking. Once you start, he won't let you stop," I warned. "Gets pretty aggressive about it too," I went on.
Maggie gasped when my voice startled her, but she recovered quickly by the time I peeked over her shoulder to see exactly what she was making. I couldn't help but catch the overwhelming scent of my shampoo in her damp hair and my body wash on her skin.
She used my shower at some point this morning and I couldn't help but feel disappointed that it was without me.
"A little late for that warning," she teased, not bothering to turn around to meet my gaze.
I didn't like that. If she couldn't look me in the eye after last night, I had bigger problems than I realized.
"Whatcha making?" I questioned, although I had already established my first guess was right.
"My famous French toast," she shrugged. "Although you were missing a few essential ingredients, I had to improvise."
I couldn't help but chuckle, cos my kitchen was far from well-stocked. I wasn't quite sure how she even managed to cook something at all, much less this heavenly-looking breakfast food. "Like what?" I questioned.
