Happy update day everyone! We are officially past the halfway point for BOOK 7! How crazy is that?
Thank you all for your constant support over the years, I probably wouldn't keep writing if you all didn't keep reading.
Enjoy!

Magie was nowhere to be seen by the time I returned from my bedroom. I'd only taken about five minutes to get dressed and recollect myself before going back downstairs to drive her home, but when I had, she was gone. I got in my truck and took a drive around the block to see if she had started walking, but she was nowhere in sight. She couldn't have gone far on foot, especially since she was well beyond sober, so I figured she'd probably called another Uber.
Or at least I hoped she had.
It seemed sort of fast for her to have called an Uber and for it to have shown up all before I came back downstairs, but it was either that or assuming she got abducted. She was drunk, but she wasn't completely out of it, so I liked to think she didn't just get into a car with a stranger, but with Maggie, I wouldn't exactly be surprised.
I fought the urge to call her, cos I was pretty sure she wouldn't answer, but part of me couldn't just go back home without knowing she got home okay. With everything going on, it wouldn't be a complete shock if somehow Maggie ended up in trouble again. I lived on a decent street, but anyone could have come along and pulled her into their car. I didn't wanna call Bear, cos it was late and I was sure he'd wonder why the fuck Maggie was showing up at my house in the first place, and I assumed that Trudy was still at girls' night.
Everything was probably fine, but I couldn't help but let my mind jump to the worst possible scenarios.
Letting out an annoyed breath, I took a sharp right to the main road and headed to Bear and Trudy's. I doubted Maggie would have gone back to girls' night, so I optimistically hoped that I would find her following my advice and heading home to crash. It was a short drive, mostly because of how fast I was going, but there was no one on the road at this time anyway, so I'd pulled up to the house in no time. The lights were off and Maggie's car was in the driveway, but I knew she hadn't driven tonight, so that didn't tell me much.
I was usually above being a peeping-Tom, but I was struggling with the strong urge to climb the tree I knew from Maggie was just outside of her bedroom window to see if she was in there.
I could have called her, but this somehow seemed easier.
I was just reaching for my keys to cut the engine when I saw a white SUV pulling up to the house. Letting out a breath, I noticed the Uber sticker on the back window of the vehicle and saw Maggie stumble out a few moments later. She wobbled up the front porch steps and fumbled with her keys for a few moments before she finally managed to let herself inside the house.
I let out a breath of relief, enjoying the fact that I could sleep peacefully tonight, knowing Maggie hadn't gotten herself into any more trouble.
I wasn't sure why that was suddenly important to me but knowing that my place had been her last stop before taking off made me uneasy. I felt a weird responsibility to make sure my actions hadn't caused her to make a bad decision, one that could get her hurt. Maybe that had more to do with all the shit that went down with Jonah and my C.O. than it actually did with Maggie, but either way, I breathed easier as I headed home to crash myself.
