[5] The Tournament

[TOOTHLESS'S POV]

I saw Luna fly out, and despite my life being endangered, I felt relieved that her life was no longer in danger. I couldn't sit there and stay relieved for long, as the Deadly Stinger ran at me trying to stab me with its tail. I managed to dodge it, but immediately after the Deathgripper is able to stab me from behind with its tail. I start to feel doozy and tired, but I tried fighting against it. Also I tried to work against the venom, the Deadly Stinger slammed his tail into my side again which forces me on the ground and eventually I pass out.

At least SHES safe...

...

I woke up in a different area. I was in a different cave inside a cage with a muzzle on, making it impossible for me to shoot any plasma. I see the Deadly Stinger in front of me.

Deadly Stinger: "You've been quite the nuisance, I'll admit, Nightfury. But I haven't lost everything from that Lightfury's escape."
He looked at me with a smug expression which angered me but I couldn't do anything about it.
Deadly Stinger: "You'll be my champion in a tournament held by dragon kings. If you win, I'll let you go. If you lose, well, you die."
I tried speaking despite being muffled.
Toothless: "I will never fight for your entertainment."
Deadly Stinger: "You don't have a choice, Nightfury."
He smirked at me then left the cave.

...

A few hours later, I'm still trying to figure out what to do. I can't shoot plasma, the cage is too small for me to get any momentum with my body, I'm just stuck here. Then, I see the Deadly Stinger come back.
Deadly Stinger: "Your first game is now."
He grabbed the cage with his teeth and pulled it out of the cave. The light blinds me for a second, but then I see that we are surrounded by high trees with flat grass in the middle. I see a Deadly Nadder in front of me, in his own cage too. I see a lot of other dragons on the trees watching, most of them with jewels on. A Monstrous Nightmare flies above everyone and begins to announce:
Monstrous Nightmare: "It is time for the first game of the Dragon Tournament to begin! We have a Deadly Nadder up against the last Nightfury of its kind!"
The dragons clap and cheer on the both of us, which makes me sick to the stomach how they're making this a game. Without any warning though, the cages suddenly open on their own and I walk out of it, so does the Deadly Nadder. The muzzle is taken off me. The first thought to come to my mind is to fly off now, but with how many strong dragons there are watching, there's nothing I can do.

I start to turn and look at the Deadly Nadder until he suddenly rushes at me and fires a fireball at me. I barely roll out of the way and quickly get up in a defensive position.
Toothless: "We don't have to-"
Before I can finish, he fires 2 fireballs. I dodge the first but the second hits my wing as I roar in pain but thought to myself:

...Don't be like them, don't fire back, Toothless.

We walked around each other in a circle, waiting for the other to make the first move. I was hoping he'd stop on his own seeing that I wasn't fighting back, but he suddenly spins around and slams his spiky tail into my side, the same side the Deadly Stinger had slammed his tail against.

I was knocked off my feat and roared louder in pain. I felt anger, immense anger.

I tried to be nice, but this Dragon clearly doesn't know what peace is!

Without thinking, I angrily started shooting quick small plasma blasts at the Deadly Nadder. Each one that hits him pushes him back and he lets out a roar in pain. I don't stop. Fueled with rage, I fire blast after blast after blast until the Deadly Nadder is on the ground shaking out of pain looking up at me. I start charging my final blow while staring down cruelly at the Deadly Nadder until a image of Luna flashes in my mind.

...What am I doing?!

I fire the blast next to the Deadly Nadder, sparing its life as I continue to look down at it. I try to give it a comforting smile, but it turns away from me.
Toothless: "I am sorry..."
Still no response from the Deadly Nadder.
Monstrous Nightmare: "We have our victor of the Night, the NIGHTFURY!"
Dragons cheer for me, yet I look down at the ground until I get back in my cage. I'm not proud of what I did. I nearly killed him, for what? Because he was doing what he needed to for survival?

We're both brought back into the caves of the tournament and the Deadly Stinger approaches me again.

Deadly Stinger: "You got power, Nightfury."
Toothless: "I am not fighting for your entertainment."
I stare at him, he stares back and smiles.
Deadly Stinger: "You shouldn't hold back so much, who knows, maybe you'll be able to finally mean something to that Lightfury."
Another feeling I hadn't felt before filled my body, all I know is that it angered me.
Toothless: "What do you mean by that?"
Deadly Stinger: "C'mon, Nightfury! Do you really think that Princess cares for you at all?"
Toothless: "Of course she-"
Deadly Stinger: "Who are you? You're a lonely isolated Nightfury with no talent, no popularity, no NOTHING. YOU are nothing, a nobody."
I stare and say nothing.
Deadly Stinger: "That Lightfury will never love you."
He turns and leaves.

I lay down on the ground on my side. I make a drawing of Luna into the ground.
...What if she doesn't? What if she never will...?
I wrap my tail and wings around myself, and fall asleep, trying my hardest not to cry as the next day approaches...
