[14] Safety Measures

[LUNA's POV]

Me, Toothless, and Stormfly all flew down to the river. We were expecting some time to ourselves but to our surprise there were a few guards there. This caught us by surprise since there has never been guards here, yet now there was. We watched carefully from some tall bushes.
Luna: "There should not be any guards here, we never protect this place, we never need to."
Stormfly:"Did any of your family ever know about you coming here?"
The river was where I told my parents I'd always gone to.
Luna: "Yes."
Toothless: "They're increasing safety measures against us."
Stormfly: "More proof Quella is against us."
Luna: "What are we going to do now?"
Stormfly: "Well, surely they aren't just increasing guard presence here. What we need to do, is find out what places have added security, and which don't."
Toothless: "Then we need to split. I'll go South of the Kingdom, Stormfly go North, and Luna stay around the center, you know the Kingdom much better then we do."
I nodded, agreeing with Toothless.
Stormfly: "Let's do it then. Meet back in this bush in an hour with any information you find."
We all flew off in our separates ways. I flew towards the Kingdom.

I looked around while flying above and instantly I noticed a few Deathgrippers walking around. Seeing a Deathgripper within The Hidden World was rare, but seeing multiple never happens here. I could tell that Quella must've worked out a deal for Deathgrippers to join in on these "safety measures". They didn't seem to have a leader with them, just walking around scouting. Maybe they don't know where our den is yet? They walk in patterns and stay split up. Having gathered the information I needed, I flew back to the bush after watching them move in the same motion for the rest of the hour.

[STORMFLY's POV]

Heading to the North of the Kingdom, I spotted some guards watchin the skies. I had to dive down onto a tree before being spotted. The amount of guards here were the same, they were just more alert then usual. Quella has to have warned them about us, meaning the guards are all aware of Quella's agenda against us, and likely will follow her wishes. They are close enough to make a signal for reinforcements, but still a good enough distance to give us time to react if we fought 'em here. I watched them for the rest of the hour, then flew back to the bush.

[TOOTHLESS'S POV]

I flew to the South end of the Kingdom and didn't see any guards. This confused me greatly, because there were usually always guards down here. It's largely an open field and since it was so vulnerable was always guarded, but now they left it completely exposed.
...Hm.
Why would they leave this just so open?
I landed on the outskirts of the field and decided to pick up a stick and throw it. After throwing the stick, it landed just a few meters from me in the field, and suddenly a large trap hidden in the grass snaps shut, crushing the stick with ease.
So they boobytrapped this field, and clearly don't care if we're caught dead or alive.
Having learnt this information, I checked around for more traps and discovered a lot through the entire field. I reset them to make sure no one knew I had discovered them, and flew back to the bush.

[LUNA's POV]

All three of us had gathered back at the bush and we began to discuss what we all learnt.
LUNA: "In the city, there's a few Deathgrippers patrolling around with the guards."
STORMFLY: "Sounds like they've made a deal to work together to get us."
LUNA: "Yes, that's the most reasonable assumption."
I nodded towards Stormfly.
LUNA: "What did you learn?"
STORMFLY: "North of the Kingdom seems like a good place to do this fight. There are guards but no more then usual, but they were clearly more alert so it's obvious the queens told the guards about her agenda against us."
LUNA: "So we can't walk around in public for sure."
Toothless then spoke.
Toothless: "To the South of the Kingdom is an open field, but it's completely booby trapped. It'd be way too risky to fight there."
Something felt off.
Luna: "Doesn't it seem like they're forcing us towards the North of the Kingdom?"
But Toothless dismissed my concerns.
Toothless: "They aren't smart enough for that, I'm sure they wanted us to show up in the South if anything and die to the traps."
But what if we're wrong?
I decided to trust Toothless's decision. We all came to the agreement that we should fight the Lord of Dragons and Quella up North.
LUNA: "Me and Toothless will have a *date* up there and *accidentally* bring attention to ourselves. Stormfly will hide in the trees and wait to ambush, then we'll fight for our lives."
Toothless smirked at me and I looked at him with a confused look, he clarified:
Toothless: "Oh no I'm not laughing at you, I just wasn't expecting all that."
I smile at him.
Luna: "I'm smarter then I seem."
Stormfly: "Someone's flattering themselves."
I roll my eyes with a smile.
Stormfly: "Anyways, this'll need to happen by tomorrow, our best chance to. Do we all think we're ready for tomorrow?"
Toothless: "Ready as I'll ever be."
Luna: "Let's do this."
She nodded.
Stormfly: "Let's get good sleep then, tomorrow is the big day."
She went to her room leaving me and toothless alone.
Toothless: "You can sleep in my room if you'd like, I need a moment to myself to think about the plan more."
The request seemed strange but I accepted it and went to his room and fell asleep.

[TOOTHLESS's POV]

I just can't get that terrible thought out of my mind. What if the power gets to me? What if I just fail and die there and then?

...I fall asleep in neither room, just on the ground.
