[12] The New Toothless

[LUNA's POV]

It's clear Toothless has been changed from the time he's spent under the Deadly Stinger's control, specifically his voice. It's gotten hard, rough, and to be honest, it feels unfamiliar. He's also definitely gotten stronger, or is at least no longer holding back. I wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one who thought Toothless was different so I asked Stormfly to speak with her for a little bit.
Stormfly: "What's up?"
Luna: "...Do you think Toothless is different now?"
Stormfly looked at me and sighed as she looked down.
Stormfly: "He's still Toothless."
I felt a bit guilty by the way I phrased that. I loved Toothless, I've always loved him, and that'll never change.
Luna: "That's not what I meant!"
Stormfly: "I know. Sure, his voices rougher, he doesn't hold back as much anymore, but he's still the gentle goofy Nightfury I've known since childhood, and the same Nightfury you fell for."
Luna: "He fell for me, I didn't fall for him."
Truth is, I knew I liked him from the first ever meeting, but I wanted to seem less needy then I was.
Stormfly: "And that may be true Luna,"
She smirked at me.
Stormfly: "But I can tell you're needy for his attention.."
Luna: "I am not!"
Stormfly: "Go an hour without checking up oToothless then."
I was confident I could easily do that.
Luna: "Alright, then I will!"

...

We waited there for a minute, then I gave up on the challenge.
Luna: "...I'm going to go check up on him."
Stormfly laughs as I walk to his room.
I open the door and see Toothless.
He's laying there looking at the ground as he taps it, he looks up and smiles at me.
Toothless: "Hey."
Luna: "Hello there, sleepy head. Do you plan on leaving this room today?"
Toothless smirks.
Toothless: "Us Nightfuries have to get good sleep Y'know."
I laid down beside him.
Luna: "Do you think we'll be finally left alone?"
Toothless sighs and looks away from me.
Toothless: "Not while I'm around."
I sat up quickly and stared at toothless.
Luna: "...You're not leaving me and Stormfly right?"
Toothless keeps his look away from me.
Luna: "Please don't leave, not again..."
I see Toothless look at me for a second before turning back towards me.
Toothless: "I'm not leaving you again, but, this isn't going to be the last time we see The Deadly Stinger. He will be back, this time, prepared."
I grabbed his paw.
Luna: "With us three together, we'll keep each other safe and protect one another."
Toothless moved his paw ontop of mine.
Toothless: "No, I will protect you both."
Luna: "You're not alone Toothless!"
Toothless: "I know that Luna, but it is my job to protect you both, it is my responsibility."
Luna: "Says who?!"
Toothless slowly stood up. I was confused at what he was doing until his scales glowed blue. To anyone who doesn't know what this means, it'd seem nothing more then just glowing scales, but...
Luna: "...You're an Alpha?!"
He slowly nodded. This was great news, this means he has a lot of potential in his future and could even overtake her father one day, but for some reason he seemed upset.
Luna: "Toothless, what's wrong..? Isn't this a good thing? This means you could rival even the Deadly Stinger!"
Toothless: "Luna... that is true, but that also means-"
Stormfly suddenly rushed into the room.
Stormfly: "The king and queen are dead!"

[TOOTHLESS's POV]

What?!
Toothless: "What happened?"
Stormfly: "No one knows, but Quella is claiming she's the rightful heir to the throne!"
Luna is also a princess, this means that Quella shouldn't be able to just try and claim that.
Toothless: "She can't, Luna is also a princess, even if she was kicked out she still can compete and challenge Quella."
Stormfly: "...Quella claims that Luna agreed she'd become queen over her."
I slowly turned to Luna, hoping to myself this wasn't true.
Toothless: "That isn't true, right Luna?"
Luna looked slowly up at me with a saddened look.
Luna: "..It's true."
I stayed silent. Stormfly and Luna just watched me. I felt anger building up, how STUPID could you be to say that, Luna?! I growled at Luna without thinking.
Toothless: "You just GAVE her that?!"
She lowered her body down, scared of me.
Luna: "T-toothless.."
Toothless: "Why would you do that?!"
Luna: "I-I didn't think-"
Toothless: "You gave up your only chance to be safe within this kingdom because you thought something? How stupid can you be?!"
Stormfly stepped in between me and Luna and looked at me.
Stormfly: "You need to calm down, go outside."
I glared at Stormfly but figured it'd be best to clear my head. I intentionally bump into Stormfly on my way out and fly to a tree close outside our Den.
That was our only chance, our only chance to get out of this situation peachy!
I shot a powerful plasma blast at a far away tree and knocked it down.
Damnit Luna!
I looked down at the ground, still extremely frustrated.

[STORMFLY's POV]

Once Toothless left, I checked up on Luna. She was sitting, tears running down her face. I hugged her and she began to let out her emotions.
Luna: "H-he just snapped at me..."
Stormfly: "I know Luna..."
Luna: "I didn't mean to upset him!"
She was crying even more tears. I wasn't good at this sort of stuff, it was always Toothless cheering her up but now it was just me. I just kept our hug and tried to come up with something.
Stormfly: "...You have to understand his situation."
Luna: "W-what.. what do you mean?"
Stormfly: "He's trying everything he can do to protect us. With the king and queen dead, the only chance we really had was if you could challenge Quella for royalty. It wasn't your fault, and Toothless shouldn't have growled at you, but you have to understand why he's mad."
Luna stayed silent for a minute.
Luna: "Should I... talk to him?"
I nodded.
Stormfly: "He'll appreciate if you understood why he got mad, but I also assure you that he's probably feeling bad about growling at you right now."
She nodded and after thanking me, she left the den.

[TOOTHLESS's POV]

..It wasn't her fault. She couldn't have known all this would happen. Why did I let out my anger on her? She and Stormfly are the only two keeping me happy, and yet I snapped at her..."

I heard someone land and quickly turned, ready to fight but then I see Luna. I look away as I felt immense guilt and keep my eyes off her.
Luna: "Toothless...?" I thought to myself:
Please just go away...
Luna: "Toothless, I'm sorry..."
It should be me apologizing, not you...
I stayed silent and kept my gaze away from her.
Luna: "...Please just forgive me."
I turned to her quickly as a tear goes down my face.
Toothless: "Luna, I'M the one who's sorry, I should've never growled at you like that, it wasn't your fault, you couldn't have known this would happen. You are the dragon of my dreams, and what I said to you in that den was unacceptable. I understand if you... if you want me to leave, and-"
Luna hugged me tightly.
Luna: "I want you to never leave me again."
I know she badly missed my gentle tone, so I took a few seconds before speaking, and I tried whispering in her ear.
Toothless: "Never again."
She looked at me surprised.
Luna: "I-I thought.."
Toothless: "I can still whisper."
I kissed her and her face lit up like a tomato. I would've laughed if it wasn't for... what happened earlier.
Luna: "..Do you want to go back inside?"
Toothless: "Uh, yeah sure."
We got back inside the den and I apologized to Stormfly, Luna told her about my whisper and even she seemed surprised.
Stormfly: "Let's spend the rest of the day relaxing, starting tomorrow though we need to start preparing for what happens after Quella becomes queen."
I nodded in agreement. We've managed to get a lot of "bonding time", but the real shit was about to begin, and I need to be willing to sacrifice my life to save and protect Luna, along as Stormfly.
