I grumbled as I sat on the bed, outfit on and makeup done as I waited patiently for James to text me back.
I wasn't going to tell him, why would I? That's really stupid.
it'd be me ruining a good relationship over a hookup with someone I shouldn't even be thinking about.
I slowly got up and made my way to my mirror, eyeing every scar once more.
this wasn't unusual, it had grown into my routine and eventually became a part of my day to day life.
I traced the scars over with my finger, wincing slightly when my nail scraped the sensitive parts of my skin.
I heard my phone ding twice, likely meaning James was outside, though I ignored it and continued to trace over the scars for a moment longer; reminiscing of times with Tom.
it wasn't until a horn honked outside that I jumped out of my trance, my phone ringing.
I quickly grabbed everything and ran downstairs, hugging my mom and letting her know I loved her before I raced outside towards his car, nearly tripping on my heels in the process.
"Did I interrupt something?" James laughed, turning his head to look at me as he turned the radio down and shot me a smile.
"no! I'm sorry I got distracted" I whined, rubbing my hands over my face and sighing as I pulled down the sun cover and began reapplying my now smeared lipstick.
"I think you'll really like the place I'm taking you" I cocked a brow, stomping any bad thoughts into the deepest corner of my brain and turning to look at the male, a cocky smile on my face.
"do you now? he giddily nodded, turning the radio back up as he began to sing.
—
he grabbed my hand, holding it tight as he lured me into the restaurant, a beautiful chandelier dangling above the ceiling and orange-yellow lights shining all around.
it was fancy, you could tell.
the people around were in suits, along with the waiters, and the women were in long fancy dresses.
in a way, I felt out of place, everyone here was so beautiful; no, everything here was so beautiful, and I was just an ordinary girl with a regular life, I didn't have millions of dollars, or fancy cars, or a maid and chef and butler.I was an ordinary girl, with an ordinary life, who lived in an ordinary house.
and that was all I'd ever be.
as I and james began to sit down and order I felt my anxiety begin to rise, and the people around me began to make me nervous.
James picked up on this, grabbing my hand and kissing it softly.
"what's wrong, princess?" I shook my head, trying not to hyperventilate as I began to freak out.
"I don't like this.." was all I could mutter out before I broke into tears and ran outside.
after a while of sitting on the curb with tears in my eyes, I heard the door bell sound before feeling James' presence next to me.
"What was that about?" he said, quietly. embarrassment laced in his tone.
"I don't like big things with fancy people" I muttered, tears still pouring as I tried my best to calm myself down.
"so you don't like it when I do nice things for you... noted..." he sighed, kicking a small pebble on the ground.
"It's not that!" I took a deep breath, wiping my eyes as I turned my head to face him. He was avoiding eye contact.
"I don't like fancy dates! I'm not fancy! I never have been! why wouldn't you ask me if I liked this kind of stuff?" I was doing my best to not raise my voice, his eyes still avoiding my own.
"Well I just figured you'd like a nice date at a fancy restaurant is all, my other dates have" I scoffed, standing up and shaking my head.
"And you think because your other dates enjoyed being spoiled senseless it means every girl likes being spoiled senseless?" he stood up, getting in my face as embarrassment and anger still painted his.
"you embarrassed me in front of that entire restaurant Madeleine!" he whisper-yelled, attempting to avoid conflict with anyone but ourselves. I was long since off that hook though.
"That's too bad! I embarrassed Mr. I wear my money on my neck and hope to get any girl who wants it!" I shoved my finger into his chest as I yelled, anger coursing through my veins.
he turned around and everything was silent for a long moment.
"Madeleine, I-" I cut him off, rolling my eyes and pulling out my phone to call someone.
"go home, James," he said nothing, staring into my eyes for a moment before getting in his car and driving off.
I looked through my contacts, tears beginning to form in my eyes again as I desperately searched for someone: anyone to call.
I clicked on the first name I knew I trusted and waited for them to pick up. it rang for several moments before a yawn and a very tired voice sounded.
"Madeleine?" he groaned, I heard shuffling from the other line before I began to cry again, attempting to tell him everything through tears.
"Bill- I, please- come get me" I was sobbing, actually sobbing. over the phone, I heard a small sigh and more shuffling before he talked once more.
"Where are you, Madeleine?" I sent him my location and heard the sound of walking and a car door slamming, then the sound of it start.
"no Tom, right?" he said softly, yawning once more as I continued to cry over the phone.
"no Tom please" Tears continued to fall as I heard him hum to the faint sound of the radio.
"sit out front, I'm on my way, mads" I slowly sat back down on the curb, my head pounding as the tears slowly began to calm.
