Gus is 14and Denavee is 13

Denavee's pov

I saw the last men drag in a new kid Wendy said hi I found out that his name was Gus then the boy named Gus said hi, everyone started hugging him I felt suspicious of him but not so much now
(The next morning (⁠*⁠'⁠ω⁠｀⁠*⁠)

I was observing gus he talks a lot in his sleep, wendy had shaken him awake and shushed him. I don't know why but this boy had me feeling strange in a way that I never have. Wendy started ranting about not eating the kibble then sat down next to Gus. Wendy and me never really got along she found my sarcasm to be mean,
Haley started swearing. Then Jojo started bombarding Gus with questions Wendy started introducing every one by one then pointed at me "that one up there that one is Denavee she can talk too but she likes to just watch, she is always watching" Wendy said. I hopped down from the scaffolding "h-hi Gus n-nice to meet you" i said my face felt flushed and I was stuttering a lot
Gus just looked at me with a tint of pink
on his face "nice to meet you too Denavee" I smiled at him "you can call me vee" we both smiled as my face turned more and more red by the minute. Wendy and Jojo gave each other I smirk

(Time skip)

Suddenly we hear a loud pounding sound outside then we all huddle together
I spaced out looking at Gus but
I don't think he noticed.
they were talking about the radio when I came to "Denavee knows how to work the radio so we'll just send her" Wendy said then everyone looked at me "agh fine I'll go" boby then dug up to the surface level and grabbed the keys they were all trying hard to get it unlocked then we got it. Everyone fell out of the door on top of me and gus "they're gone vee you have to go" Gus said with urgency in his voice
"But what if they come back" I said I was too paranoid to go "it's okay, you got this" Gus said trying to comfort me "but what if I can't look what they did to us the last time" I said once again doubting myself "you didn't have me the last time,okay I'll go with you just tell me what to do" he said with so much confidence I nodded then we went off

When we sent the message to mom one of the last men came In Gus covered my mouth and we hid under the desk
When he left i sighed in relief "we did it" I said Gus look me in the eyes "no you did it" he smiled at me and my face heated up
and then something rolled behind
us "don't look behind you" Gus said as
quiet as a mouse. I turned around and saw Roy's dead body in a tank. "is that" Gus started I nodded my head "tell your mom to hurry" I got out from under the desk then had my hand slapped down on the table. It was one of the last men

We were dragged back to the pen the man that took us back took the keys and put a collar around Bobby's neck. When he left everyone gathered to ask what mom said "I don't know, she didn't respond" I said looking down at the ground "well did you see roy" Earl asked I looked at Gus "roy isn't coming back" everyone started muttering "that's right cause Roy escaped yeah he snuck out after they took him" Gus said lying and putting false hope in everyone I looked at Gus in disbelief.
