His mother is very smart. As soon as she saw the girl, she understood what happened.

She called me into the bedroom.

"When did it start?" his mother asked me.

"I don't know." I replied, burying my head.

"Ah," she sighed, "I noticed that lately he hasn't mentioned you when he came home. Before, he couldn't go three sentences without mentioning you..."

As she spoke, she probably saw that I was feeling down and didn't dare to continue.

I continued to keep my head lowered and remained silent.

After a while, she held my hand. "Lorraine, you're a good girl. My son who doesn't appreciate you. Let him mess around. There will come a day when he regrets it.

"Auntie likes you. Even if you don't end up with my son in the future, I still consider you like a daughter. If you ever feel like eating something, come to my place and I'll make it for you, okay?"

Hearing this, I felt a mixture of emotions. I couldn't help but find it both amusing and tearful.

His mother liked me, I knew it all along.

I spent a year chasing after him like a "just-in-case", ingratiating myself with all his relatives, even more frequently than he did. They all said I was obedient, sensible, respectful to elders, and likable.

I thought that by doing all of that, he would like me more.

But...

While I was busy sending holiday greetings to his relatives, he was busy having a passionate affair with that junior.

I couldn't describe my current feelings.

"Josephine, thank you for your kindness. You're really nice," I paused for a moment, "After this meal, I won't come here anymore."

She sighed and didn't say anything more.
