Another week passed, and that junior student came crying to my dorm room. I learned that Vernon had also broken up with her.

How fast things change.

She told me that Vernon couldn't forget about me. He would secretly check my FB and always mention me in front of her. She couldn't take it anymore, so she decided to break up with him.

"So, what do you want me to do?" I forced a bitter smile.

"If he comes looking for you, can you not get back together with him?" She pleaded, tears streaming down her face. It made me feel like I was the one who ruined their relationship.

I felt helpless.

"Do you think I would keep going back to the same tree to hang myself?" I replied, dismissing her.

After sending the junior away, Vernon started to coincidentally run into me secretly.

Thinking about what the junior said, I felt a pang of sadness.

I had liked him for so long, but he found someone else, and now he suddenly realized he missed me.

"Vernon, stay away from me." I couldn't hold back anymore and confronted him.

"Lorraine, can't we be friends after breaking up?" he asked.

"We can't." I didn't want to play any more ambiguous games with him.

His eyes darkened slightly. "You're so sure you won't beg me in the future?"

I turned around and walked away, ignoring him.

But that night, I started to regret a little.

Not regretting what I said, but I desperately needed someone's help, and I couldn't bring myself to ask him.

It all started when my roommate had a sudden illness. Since it was a holiday, it was just the two of us in the dorm. I was scared and immediately called for an ambulance.

My roommate was quite heavy, and just carrying her downstairs exhausted all my strength.

When we arrived at the hospital, I was nearly paralyzed with fear.

After taking care of everything, I sat alone by her bedside, trembling as I held her hand, when my phone rang.

It was Albert.

"What's wrong?" He asked after we finished talking and noticed that I hadn't hung up.

"Nothing, I'll hang up." I whispered.

But he didn't hang up either. And I didn't say anything more.

"Are you in the dorm?" he asked, lowering his voice.

"No." I answered truthfully.

"Where are you?"

"At the hospital." I replied, and then quickly explained, "My roommate got sick, so I came to the hospital with her."

"Mm..." He paused for a moment, "Are you scared?"

Though I didn't speak, every cell in my body was nodding frantically.

I had never carried my roommate to an ambulance in the middle of the night before. Seeing her pale and barely breathing, it would be a lie to say I wasn't scared.

My roommate's parents wouldn't arrive until tomorrow, and I was completely lost when faced with the doctors' questions. I was terrified.

"Do you want me to come?" his words floated into my ears, and it felt like I had grasped onto a lifeline in my despair.

"Can you?" I asked.

"Send me the address, wait for me for half an hour."

After saying that, he hung up the phone.
