"Likewise."
I felt a sense of unease when he said that, but I didn't know why, it was just a harmless and rather friendly response, and I knew I was being a little crazy.
It was so rude of me to be so...uneasy, when he hadn't done anything, it was only a feeling I had, and my feelings aren't good to follow. He took my basket from me and I reached for it, but he pulled it out of my reach
"Allow me, doll, a pretty little thing like you shouldn't have to pay all by herself Now" he grinned.
"No, no no sir it's okay, honest. I can pay for it" I insisted
He snickered condescendingly.
"Sure honey. But allow me."
I looked around to see if people were still staring, but nobody was. I looked to see if the situation was abnormal, but with everyone moving about their day, it seemed as if it wasn't.
And what did I know, being locked away for so long. I timidly followed behind him as he paid for my groceries.
He walked me out of the store carrying the two paper bags."Let me walk you home, you Don't need to be carrying these heavy bags."
The feelings telling me to run tugged harder at me, but, I couldn't. He wasn't being anything but polite...and he had all my groceries, and if he wouldn't give them to me, he had to walk with me.
I hesitantly agreed.
As we walked I felt a tinge of sickness, catching glimpses of him looking at me with eyes that made me uncomfortable.
Once I stood on my front doorstep, he handed me the two bags. Though it was uncomfortable, I really didn't have much money, and it was a great help to have my groceries paid for.
I cleared my throat, pushing aside the unease."Thank you, how can I make it up to you? I jus' feel bad for havin you pay.."
He smirked wildly.
"How considerate, what a kind heart you have my dear..."
I looked away, whispering a thank you
"Money is tight for even me..so I appreciate the offer"
I felt even worse as he said that, knowing he didn't have the money to spend on me himself. I felt just awful about it.
"I'm sorry"
"That's alright, doll. You really want to make it up to me?" He asked
I nodded
"Well I'm sure you don't have the money to repay me..so..."
I cringed inside in embarassment, was it obvious that I had so little...?
"I'll give you the opportunity in a different way, won't you go to dinner with me, doll?"
I blushed and my eyes widened.
"Dinner?? Like a date..?"
"Mm...clever girl." He smirked
"B-but we just met-"
"Then let's change that, I may not know you but I've heard plenty, and I must say, you are even more appealing than they say."
I thought about it. he did pay for my groceries...and I don't have the money to compensate..and I did offer to repay him.
Besides it was only dinner, and he has been kind...maybe this was what was supposed to happen..?"I..I suppose I will..."
"Good." His voice suddenly sounded firm, and made me jolt inside
"Be ready tonight at 8" he said, taking his usual tone again, before walking off.
I stood there silently for a second, feeling a bit sick, but was able to shake the feeling as I went inside to put away my groceries.
As I put away the food I felt a little uneasy knowing he has bought me all of it, and wondering why he would.
But I reminded myself, he had done nothing wrong, and went to pick out my dress.
