-scouts pov-
I had managed again to sneak daisy into my yard, becoming increasingly comfortable now. Atticus was yet to have a clue, I attributed that to his old age.
Me and daisy were in the back yard playing capture the flag, but with only two people. The flags in question were two small bouncy balls I had in my box.
I tossed mine over her head to try and distract her into looking for it while I got hers, but my heart sank as I saw my bouncy ball roll to the foot of the worst person I could have ever thought to come up to us.-Daisy's pov-
I saw the pure fear in scouts eyes as the ball rolled to the foot of a tall man, and instantly felt that fear strike me as well. I was terrified in an instant, and the two of us froze there, silenced.
-[unknown] pov-
I looked down at the small bouncy ball at my feet, and then to the two terrified faces looking back at me. I couldn't help but worry now about what they might have thought.
-daisys pov-
The man picked up the ball and returned it to scout, who seemed to be desperately trying to think of words to explain herself, but failing. The confusion of the situation scared me even more.
What would happen? The man approached me, standing about a foot or more taller than me, with a sort of sharp face, silky black hair, and a intimidating aura. I couldn't read his emotions well, as he had a rather dry expression, and I was too scared to look at him much anyway.
He smelled nice, and was groomed and well kept, he hardly seemed like a maniac, but the way scout had acted I couldn't assume he was anything good.
His almost cold gaze from behind his glasses made me feel as if I was under some kind of spotlight, being judged and assessed, and in that moment all I wanted to do was run and hide.
The tall man cleared his throat, and from behind him I caught a glimpse of a teary eyed scout."Good afternoon ma'am" he said
His voice was deep, and warm, but again, had such an intimidating effect to it, I couldn't find the courage to respond in the slightest, so I stood there like a whimpering baby in his shadow.
"Don't scare her!" Cried scout from behind him
"Don't! Don't be mean to miss daisy! She's my friend!"
He looked down at scout
"No, never. I don't have any intent to scare miss daisy, I simply want to meet her is all."
He looked back at me, and I could feel his frighteningly intent gaze back upon me. I had never felt so small, and so utterly helpless.
In a way I almost wanted to....like it. He was a handsome man, but everything that could make him handsome could also make him scary."I didn't scare you, did I? If I did, I didn't mean to, my apologies in that case."
A squeak left my mouth, and that was all.
"Oh look you scared her! Now she can't be my friend you're not gonna like her and it's all over!" Scout said, beginning to cry.
The man picked scout up, and fear shot through my body as he did.
"No, no, whatever makes you think that's the case scout?"
"You're just too different!"
He shook his head as he rubbed her back, kissing her on the head before setting her back down and extending his hand to me.
"I'm terribly sorry we haven't met yet, miss Daisy. I'm scouts father, Atticus finch"
