When we reach the dining hall a girl launches herself at Jace. The girl I recognize as Aline Grace, but then I remember what Izzy said, Aline Penhallow.
Jace's and mine hold on each other's hand is broken as Aline wraps Jace in a hug. She leans back, and moves in to kiss him not even noticing me. I quickly jump in to action. I grab the back of Aline's jacket, and pull her back. When she whips around to look at me she is surprised to see its me, and at my strength since last time we'd seen each other I could hardly carry my bag.
"Clary, what... wait why is there a mundane in the Institute?" Aline asks as I take Jace's hand obviously not having been informed I was a shadowhunter.
"I'm not a mundie. I'm a shadowhunter." I say as Alec and I sit down on either side of Jace's usual seat.
Aline sits down beside Max as Isabelle and Simon sit down on one side of me. As Maryse and Robert walk in, everyone notices Jace still standing by the door.
Alec and I turn expectingly towards him. When we look at him he averts his gaze, and walks over to the other side of the table. He silently sits down beside Aline, and she gives me a smug look. Alec's jaw drops as Jace sits down next to her.
I abruptly stand, my chair scraping the hard wood floor and falling backwards. I then announce, "I've changed my mind, I'm going to Taki's. Isabelle, Alec, Simon, join if you want. I'll go alone if I have to."
As I walk out I hear several chairs scrape the hard wood floor, and Alec, Isabelle, Simon, and Jace are standing with me in the hallway.
"I'm sorry, Jace, that invitation was not extended to you. You three coming?" I say as Aline comes out into the hallway.
I get silent nods from Alec and Izzy, but Simon only looks away. I nod to the three remaining, and Alec, Isabelle, and I walk out the door, headed for Taki's.
When we get there I show the two warlocks my runes, and we walk inside.
When Kalie, our fairy waitress, takes our order she asks where Jace was, and why he wasn't with us. Alec silently explains what happened this morning, and Kalie's face goes purple. Unlike her usual light blue colored skin the purple is a violent looking color. She shakes her head after Alec finishes, and walks away.
After we order I put my head in my hands. I feel a rough but small hand rub my back. I take a deep, shaky breath. Then say coldly, "He can go to hell."
"Clary, first off, your upset, second, you don't remember everythi-" I cut Alec off sharply saying, "I remember everything, Alec. I remember how we first met, I remember the letters, I remember the training, how I fell for his stupid ass, how I love him, I remember. Everything."
"Clary... I don't know why he did that. He and Aline are almost like cousin's... though they did date for a short time before he met you..." Isabelle tells me thoughtfully.
"Not helping her, Izzy." Alec tells Isabelle.
"Oh, sorry, Clary." Izzy says as she pays my shoulder.
I shake my head, and press my palms to my temples. Our food gets here just as Simon comes in the door, followed by Jace and Aline.
When I see them I groan. I stand up as Alec asks, "Where are you going, Clary?"
"I'm leaving. That's where." I say.
I leave my food where it is, and walk out the door. As soon as my feet hit the pavement, I have my stele in hand. and quickly draw a glamour rune. I stuff the stele back in my pocket, and take off running, my strengthened muscles and improved lungs carrying me faster than any mundane could ever run. When I finally start to get tired I stop and look around me. I stand at the end of Magnus Bane's walkway. I slowly trudge up the walkway and knock the knocker on Magnus' front door.
When Magnus opens the door, and looks me up and down he tells me, "Get your pretty little self in here."
I do as he says, and walk through the front door. I wipe my sweaty face on the sleeve of my shirt as I hang my gear jacket up on a hook just inside the doorway.
"What happened? I live on the west side of Brooklyn, and you obviously ran here." Magnus says as we sit down in his lavishly furnished living room.
Still trying to catch my breath I say, "Jace... Aline... breakfast... hold on... Aline Penhallow and her family showed up at the Institute today. When they d-"
"Stop right there. Aline Penhallow was all I needed to hear. What do you want me to do?" Magnus asks me.
I sigh as I put my head in my hands. I reply to Magnus saying, "Don't let them know I am here. I know I'm asking a lot, because that would mean lying to Alec, but Jace can't know where I am... he can't."
Magnus nods and asks, "Anything else?"
I shake my head no and Magnus points to a closed door and says, "There is a spare bedroom. It has a full bath in it. I'm sure you would like to freshen up."
I nod, and slowly walk over to it...

Jace's POV
---

When we walk in to Taki's Clary immediately stands, and storms out the door after telling Alec something. I shake my head, and follow her out the door.
When I get outside Clary's gone. I look around, and only see a retreating red head bobbing up and down at top speed three blocks away.
I slowly walk back in, and over to our table where Alec and Isabelle refuse to let Simon or Aline sit down.
"Come on, why aren't you two sitting down yet?" I ask.
I am answered by a harsh voice, Alec's, saying, "You three can either go back to the Institute or get another table. This one's taken."
"Really, Alec? Come on let us sit down." I say as I try to sit down beside him.
He stands pushing me back careful, but non to gently.
"If you want to explain your actions. Ok. If not quoting Clary, "Got to Hell.""
"Alec!" Shocked by what he says, paired with his actions I stumble back the slightest bit.
Then, I realize what I had done.
"Oh God... I'm gonna be sick." As I start to get dizzy I feel Aline's hand on my arm. I pull away, and start back to the Institute...
