"Ready?"
look at Laura at my side, renting a car has never been our thing so we have, openly, decided that we will do with a cab or some public transportation. Las Vegas has never been more beautiful, and it's only the exit of the airport, it will be the broken breath in my throat, my mouth open and the adrenaline rush of seeing my first Grand Prix, I've always been a fan since I was a little girl, competition was my thing and I was repeatedly told how 'sports is bad for you, you get too competitive.' For me, it's like being inside a candy store when you're a kid and then we're in Las Vegas, me and Laura alone and obviously a bunch of racers in a city I've never seen.
"I love seeing you so happy,"
my friend says and I look at her continuing to smile and look around again.
My phone vibrates and I'm pretty sure it's Laura who mentioned me in some story, but it keeps vibrating
"are you there yet?"
It's Max on the other end of the phone, I can hear the screams of fans, he must be in the paddock or in the car near the circuit, I smile at the thoughtfulness, we've been talking for days and we've talked often, a good friendship at least on my end, according to
Laura it's wasted time my wait for the evil done by Nico to pass, but I confess I'm not sick, the love was over, but I'm afraid of another relationship
"yes, Max, do you know, by any chance, what is the name of a cab or where to take some public transportation to get to the hotel?"
He snorts and laughs
"you look around too much, but you don't notice the details"
I look at Laura and shrug as if to say 'what am I missing?' And then there he is in front of me in his black Ferrari. He's leaning against the door looking at me. He's wearing beige jeans that fit him like a glove and a redbull shirt, what little sun that's in the sky is all over him, lighting him up, bringing out his ash blond hair and light eyes. I take the phone off the hook, I'm entranced looking at him in all his beauty and only now noticing how tall he really is. We walk up to him and I get Laura to greet him first
"hello my Beautiful girl, it's a free practise day"
he intones as if I were a cab driver reserved for grand prix guests, I smile and hug him
"hello world Champion"
he leaves me a kiss on my cheek and loads the small suitcases into the car
"go ahead in the front"
Laura pushes me
"I'lI take you to the hotel girls, come to the paddock whenever you want, the passes are next to you Lau"
he calls her by her nickname because he is used to it by now given how many times I mention her
"I have to run and get back to the paddock otherwise Christian would kill me if I'm late"
"Thank you"
intones Laura in a confident but sweet voice and she enters the hotel that redbull kindly booked for us and starts checking in
"you didn't have to do all this, we could have gotten away with a cheap hotel"
I shake my head and he pulls me closer to him
"no way, then I'm a few meters away, there's bound to be mercedes, you love Lewis you couldn't miss it"
he smiles and his phone starts vibrating, it's Christian and we both know it, I try to pull away but he holds me tightly to him
