Jacquelle hurriedly shoved a small bag of medicine into her left dress pocket and a water bottle into her right. Even though her skin was still glowing from the Angelic spell, she was pleased to find she could still grab onto objects.
Anything on me will pass through walls.
"We need supplies before running off into the dessert," the blond stated to her companions in a matter-of-fact tone.
"We really ought to be going-" Moiya started to say, but the blond cut her off.
"And we should eat breakfast before we leave."
"Good point," Rhys chimed in, his body hovering above the ground. "Moiya, could you run over to the kitchen and fetch us all breakfast since you still look normal?"
Moiya stared at him as if he had a third eye growing from his forehead. "What happened to leaving now?"
"They said to bring us all to the front gate in thirty minutes," Rhys replied, then floated over to the closet. He rummaged through hung up clothes before pulling out a backpack and unzipping it. "They don't know that we know. Just act casual and get us food."
He then pointed at the ceiling. "I'm not sure how much longer we have for this spell to wear off, but it's already been four minutes. Once it's done, we can say the spell again altogether and escape just by floating up to the surface."
Moiya pursed her lips together. "Fine," she relented. "But if I don't come back in ten minutes, you'll both find me, right?"
"Of course," Rhys replied immediately. "We would never abandon you."
Jacquelle thought back to Moiya chasing after Valor, leaving her and Rhys to deal with the demons attacking Lord Pontiff's Castle. She squeezed her eyes shut when she remembered Cai and Arnevet, Valor's comrades, being ripped apart by the forest of demonic limbs. For some reason, memories of her mother rose up and flooded her brain.
Everyday she left me for hours, then ignored me when she came back home... Mother never loved me.
Anger rose within her chest.
"You're the one who abandoned us," the blond breathed.
Moiya, who was about to exit the room, spun around and shot a glare at the blond. "Excuse me?"
"You followed after Valor!" Jacquelle snapped. "Cai and Arnevet wouldn't have died if you had been with us!"
Moiya folded her arms over chest, her face growing darker. "Valor would've died if I hadn't gone after him!" she shot back. "I saved him and he saved me. I would do it again if I had to!"
Rhys' cat-like ears twitched in irritation. "You're both wasting time!" he scolded the two girls. "Argue after we've already left and are safe, but not right now!"
