Jacquelle Demarko glared at the two figures standing on the front porch of her father's home.
The cloaked men wore long navy blue robes that covered the majority of their bodies and black sunglasses. The pair stood side by side, wearing inscrutable expressions. A shiny pendant stood out on their garb, bearing their country's crest of the gremowlkin and their names beneath.
Doctors Ace and Gavin... Totally not suspicious at all, Jacquelle thought, her midnight blue eyes rolling towards the ceiling.
"Hello, Asher Demarko," Ace, the taller of the two men spoke, a pen held high in one hand and a clipboard in the other. "Are you ready to receive the Lemia Vaccine?"
"Yes," Jacquelle's father replied, stepping to the side and gesturing towards the inner room.
"Dad, don't let them in," the blond spoke up. "They look like thugs."
Mr. Demarko's face grew beet red. "Please excuse my daughter's rudeness," he said curtly before shooting a disapproving frown at the blond.
"That's quite alright," Ace spoke again, his voice as smooth as silk. "Being wary of strangers is a good thing, especially for children her age. However," he added, addressing Jacquelle with a stern edge to his tone. "I assure you we are licensed doctors permitted to distribute the vaccine. We're just doing our job."
"Did you want your daughter to receive the vaccine too?" The second man, Gavin, asked Mr. Demarko, a toothy grin stretching across his pale face.
"Yes."
Jacquelle shot a venomous stare at her father. "I don't want a shot on my birthday," she huffed. "Can we reschedule?"
Regret crossed Mr. Demarko's expression, but he shook his head. "No, we're doing this today."
Jacquelle ground her teeth together when her father rolled up his collared white sleeve and sat down at the dining room table. One of the doctors placed a briefcase on the table, opened it, and procured a syringe filled with a dark red liquid.
That's the same vaccine Amraphael was showing everyone back at Lord Pontiff's Castle!
The blond tightened her trembling fists.
Dad won't believe me if I interfere, but if I do nothing it'll be too late!
"You'll feel a sharp sting for a few seconds, then it'll be over," Ace said nonchalantly. He raised the needle and took a step closer towards Mr. Demarko.
Jacquelle curled two fingers on her right hand, summoning her Air Magic. Just before the doctor brought the needle to Mr. Demarko's skin, the blond lurched her arm forward, creating a strong gust of wind.
The invisible currant knocked the syringe out of the doctor's hand. It flew across the room, smacking into the wall and shattering into several pieces with a sickening crunch.
