Rhys Leyo stared into a black void through his right eye, spotting the souls of his twin brother and Zaruna floating in an eternal abyss of darkness. Ujuu's orb was encased in candy-apple red flames while the Rosinkin girl's soul had a halo of magenta fire.
I miss them so much.
Rhys thought about the last time he had seen his younger brother and smiled to himself. I was leaving Matumi on a sky ship, the Black Dog, watching Ujuu and Zaruna wave goodbye while the rest of us took to the skies. It's been too long since I've seen them.
Without warning the two orbs moved, both floating towards Rhys. The Shadelkin blinked in surprise. Within the millisecond of his eyes being shut and reopened the scenery around him had changed completely.
The air, which had been hot and humid before, was now frigid and digging into his exposed skin like icy nails. The smell of death and decay had now been replaced with the subtle hint of cloudberries and oranges. The citrus scent wafted in the cool breeze, tickling his nose as it swept by. Rhys' braided hair swayed back and forth while dancing in the wind's current.
Rhys blinked again but the vicinity around him was the same. The Blood Oak forest surrounding him had vanished, replaced with snow covered buildings resembling a sleepy backwater town.
The partially full moon hung high in the air, slightly obscured by puffy clouds and a light mist hovering just above the ground.
I must have teleported like Moiya. That is such a jarring experience-
"No way!" a familiar voice exclaimed from several feet away, cutting off Rhys' thoughts.
"Is zat you?" another voice chimed in.
Rhys spun around, catching two faces staring at him in disbelief.
"Ujuu! Zaruna!"Rhys' heart swelled with joy as he bounded towards his brother and friend, his boots crunching in the soft snow with each leap. He still had a bag full of extra clothes slung on over his shoulder, so he gently placed it down before throwing his arms around them both. "I've missed you two! I'm so glad you're both okay!"
"You too bro!" Ujuu laughed, hugging his older brother and thumping his hands on his back.
"Vhere ah ze others?" Zaruna inquired after giving Rhys a gentle hug. "Ah zey okay?"
"Yeah!" Ujuu gasped, the happiness immediately fading from his eyes. "And how'd you even get here?"
"Angelic Powers," Rhys summarized, then pulled away from his brother and friend's embrace.
"You can use Angelic Magic?" gaped Ujuu. "Since when?"
"Soraya shared pieces of her soul with us, so we can now wield both Angelic and Demonic Magic."
Ujuu's candy-apple eyes widened in surprise. "That is so cool and weird. I never once thought to try and use Apollryük Spells, but do you think Zaruna and I can too?"
