Gracie's footsteps echoed in the empty streets as she nervously made her way to meet Hayes, the guy with whom she had cheated on her girlfriend, August. The cool evening air did nothing to ease the knot of guilt tightening in her stomach. August, blissfully unaware, believed Gracie was spending the weekend at her parent's house, seeking solace from the demands of their busy lives. Little did she know that Gracie's actions would shatter the trust between them.

Gracie's mind raced as she recalled the events leading up to this moment. She and August had been together for years, their love growing deep and strong. But lately, the spark seemed to fade, replaced by routine and complacency. In a moment of weakness, Gracie had sought solace and excitement outside their relationship, crossing a line she never thought she would.

As Gracie arrived at the designated meeting spot, she couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation. The dimly lit cafe stood as a backdrop to her secret rendezvous. Hayes sat at a corner table, casually sipping his coffee, unaware of the storm brewing within Gracie's conscience.

Their eyes met, and Gracie's heart sank. She saw the desire and anticipation in Hayes' gaze, a stark contrast to the betrayal and guilt she felt within. For a fleeting moment, she questioned her own actions and the consequences they would unleash.

As Gracie approached Hayes, the gravity of her choices weighed heavily upon her. She knew the damage she was about to inflict on August's heart, but she couldn't deny the undeniable attraction that had led her astray. She felt a mix of fear, longing, and self-disgust, knowing that she had willingly jeopardized the trust and love she once shared with August.

In a quiet corner of her mind, a voice whispered, urging Gracie to turn back, to confess her transgressions, and seek forgiveness. But the other part, fueled by desire and curiosity, yearned to explore this forbidden connection with Hayes, to momentarily escape the confines of her relationship.

As Gracie sat across from Hayes, their conversation flowed with an ease born out of shared secrets. They laughed, exchanged stories, and reveled in the forbidden chemistry that had drawn them together. But with each stolen moment of pleasure, Gracie's guilt intensified, reminding her of the love and happiness she had betrayed.

Hours passed, and the night grew darker. Gracie's heart felt heavy, her mind consumed by the turmoil she had unleashed. She knew she had to make a choice-a choice that would shape not only her own future but also the lives of those she loved.

Leaving August in the back of her mind, Gracie stepped out into the cool night air once again, this time with Hayes at her arm. He led her to her car and got into the passenger seat as she directed her to his apartment.

Now, August knew that Gracie wasn't at her parents' house. She knew because Henry had called to ask where Gracie was since she had missed her father's birthday party.

But she gave her girlfriend the benefit of the doubt.

The benefit of the doubt lasted approximately two days until August got so worried she couldn't sleep. She called and called and Gracie didn't pick up until the fourteenth call.

"Yes?"

"Are you okay?" August asked, pulling her finger out of her mouth when she heard her girlfriend's sleepy voice.

"Mhm."

August sighed in relief, "Well, where the hell have you been? I was worried sick."

Gracie groaned, "I told you not to come."

"I didn't, Gracie," August clenched her jaw shut, "Your brother called because you missed your father's birthday."

"What? No, I didn't. June only just started."

"Gracie, it's July tomorrow," August sighed, "Are you okay? Are you safe?"

"Yes."

"Can you send me your address? So I can have someone pick you up? Your family misses you. I miss you."

"I drove here," Gracie murmured, "I'll drive back. I'm sorry for scaring you."

"Don't worry," August said softly, "Stay safe. I love you."

"You too."

August knew that they were meant to fall apart from the very start.

She'd known all along, but she let herself hope because she deserves the same love others have. Right?

But now she wonders how long they could be a sad song before August couldn't take it anymore. Before Gracie admitted whatever it was that she was keeping from August.

August had given Gracie all her best me's and all she got in return was lies and deceit and it hurt.

In the depths of August's heart, amidst the turbulence of betrayal and hurt, her love for Gracie burned brighter than the flames of hatred could ever consume. It was a love deeper than the ocean, a love that defied logic and rationale, a love that whispered, 'Forgiveness is the balm that heals the wounds of betrayal.'

And August wished she could go back in time to very first night. She wished she was next to Gracie, watching Spider-Man, in New York. She wished she was right where they had left each other's hearts.
