"Love me or hate me, both are in my favour. If you love me, I'll always be in your heart. If you hate me, I'll always be in your mind," Gracie murmured as she stroked August hair.
"Don't do that. You know Shakespeare is my weakness," August said sleepily.
Gracie froze (she had thought August was asleep) before relaxing. "All literature is your weakness."
"Hmm. What's your weakness?" August asked. "Has it changed or is it still me?"
"Still you," Gracie said honestly.
August rolled onto her back to look up at Gracie. She laid quietly on Gracie's lap, her eyes fixed on her dear friend's face. The room was filled with a bittersweet atmosphere as they both knew that their time together was limited. Gracie, with her infectious smile and twinkling eyes, was a free spirit who constantly wandered, leaving August longing for her presence whenever she was gone.
Gracie's features were like a work of art, delicately carved by the hands of a skilled sculptor. August traced the contours of her face with her gaze, memorizing every line, every freckle, and every subtle expression. It was as if she wanted to capture Gracie's essence, to hold onto it even when she was miles away.
As August stared at Gracie, she couldn't help but reflect on their journey. The longing, the unconditional love, the conditional love, the heartbreak. All of it.
In those moments of separation, August found solace in memories of their relationship together. They had danced under the moonlight on lonely beaches, and shared secrets whispered in the stillness of starlit nights. Gracie was a kaleidoscope of experiences, painting August's world with vibrant hues that she could never forget.
August's eyes welled up with tears as she realized that Gracie's departure was imminent. It was in these precious moments, as she gazed into Gracie's eyes, that she realized the significance of their connection. Gracie was not just a friend; she was a part of August's soul, an irreplaceable presence that had woven itself into the fabric of her being.
"Are you okay?" Gracie asked when she noticed. "You're crying."
August wiped her tears and nodded. "I think we should do the wardrobe next," She changed the subject.
Gracie's face dropped before she nodded. "Okay. Let's go."
August nodded and stood as she couldn't help but her her mind wander.
Gracie's departure brought forth a mixture of emotions within August. There was a sense of sadness for the impending void that would be left behind, but also a deep gratitude for the moments they had shared. She cherished the laughter, the tears, and the countless conversations that had shaped their bond. Those memories would forever be etched in August's heart.
