Chapter 6 Room for Disappointment

Today was another day. But I couldn't shake the feeling that it was going to be different. Maybe it could be that I'm finally going to be taking Bryce out with me. Bryce was one of the things my therapist suggested my parents to get, he was more than a guide dog; he was also my comfort dog and he was my comfort dog more than even being a guide dog. Since I wasn't allowed to go out that much, he really couldn't guide me anywhere before. But now he would and my mom would stop tagging along everywhere.

Other than taking Bryce to school, I was also going to be meeting up with Walter at 3. So maybe I was excited. My dad was going to take me to school today, and we were going to have our 15 minutes bonding session. That's what he calls it. He would ask me things and I'd respond, if I didn't feel like it we would just listen to my favorite music and sit in silence.

I loved that, some people think that in order to bond with someone they always have to force the conversation, but sitting in silence and enjoying each other's company; that was bonding for me. Silence on the breakfast table, just how I liked it. Dad isn't much of a breakfast person so he usually just drinks coffee for breakfast, and waits for all of us to finish eating.

I wasn't that much into eating breakfast either but Mom would freak out if I didn't have breakfast so I had it too. After breakfast I said bye to Mom and Bryce,Dad and I headed to Harper's.

" Okay young lady! 15 minutes starts now!"

" Hey Dad?"

" Yes?"

" Can we just listen to The Beatles?"

" Okay honey, no problem. But I really hope you're doing okay!"

" Did Mom ask you to speak to me?"

" Yes she did love but I also wanted to know if you're comfortable at Harper's that's all."

" Dad, Harper's is okay. I'm okay. And if I'm going through something I won't cut myself, I promise."

"No Thea, don't promise me that. It can't be easy, just promise me anytime you feel like that you'll tell me. Please honey."

" I promise Dad I will."

"Here comes the sun..tadada. I love you Thea."

" Here comes the sun..tadada!"

We both laughed, we didn't even know the lyrics. But it was fun. Sometimes I swear I'd see a glimpse of sunlight everytime I laughed.

" It's really great to hear you laugh. "

Bark!Bark! Bark!

" Hey, even Bryce agrees!"

Something felt different today, I felt like I finally found my place in this world afterall. Maybe I have been too angry to care about anything. But I was willing to change, one day at a time.

After a couple of other songs we finally stopped. Dad opened his door and opened the backseat to get Bryce out. Then I opened my door and crashed into someone.

" I'm sorry."

" No I'm sorry."

"Thea, are you okay?"

" What is happening here?"

This was so weird, and the worst thing is I had no idea what was going on.

" Hi Sir, I'm Walter. Thea's guide"

" I'm her Dad and I'm running late. I have to go. Bye honey." Kisses my forehead

" Bye Dad!"

"I take it this is Bryce!"

" Yup, Bryce this is Walter my guide, Walter this is Bryce my guide dog."
