Hunter's lips attacked my own in a tender kiss as he slowly sat me down on the bed, removing my night dress before reaching for the button on his pants. "Lay back." He said; I did as I was told, closing my eyes and trying to imagine I was anywhere else but here. I could feel him looming over me as he adjusted to my center and began to press in. It stung more than Sarah and Maryanne let on.
As Hunter thrusted, I just laid there, trying to think of anything but the pain between my legs. I thought of sailing, feeling the boat rock against the crashing waves of the seas. How could this be pleasurable to anyone? I wondered.
I want it to be over.
I lay there for a moment, too sore to move. Hunter continued his thrusts, leaving kisses along my neck and jaw, trying to soothe me, but I was far from it. When he finally finished, he kissed my lips before stepping away to get cleaned up.
I hated it.
Sarah and Maryanne are crazy to think that could be even remotely pleasurable for a woman. If it were up to me, Hunter would never be allowed to put his hands on me again; sadly, I don't have much choice.
As Hunter lay asleep, I sat at the windowsill, thinking about the day and everything that had happened. Tears and silent sobs erupted from my throat as I processed it all. Soon my mind went to Adella. I felt connected to her; our love of the sea? The fact that we're both female? I'm not sure. Perhaps she feels this connection too? Does she think of me as I do her?
I looked out towards the ocean, watching the waves rise and fall as the moon glistened across the crystal waters. I squinted my eyes, trying to see farther into the distance; I saw a tail splashing amongst the water. As if tugged by an invisible string, I felt an urge to go to the beach but restrained myself. A single tear slid down my face as I watched the tail disappear; I climbed into bed, trying not to wake up Hunter. Closing my eyes, all I could think about was Adella...
I watched as the water crashed against the shore, waiting for something or someone...that's when I heard her, the soft, tender voice of an angel, Adella. I watched her swim closer before she reached the shoreline. In a glistening light, her tail of sparkling blue transformed into legs. I must've been in shock as she walked towards me and placed a kiss on my lips; this wasn't anything like when Hunter kissed me.
It was passionate and welcoming, and I didn't want it to end...
Adella's hands grabbed my breasts, trying to rip the laces to access my skin. I could hear my moans as she did this, my core burning like a fire had been set. Adella took one of my hands, guiding it from her collarbone down to her breasts; this moment, I realized that she didn't have any clothing on, but I didn't care. She then moved lower, raising my skirt before kissing up my thighs before her hot breath brushed against me. I moaned a soft whine as she teased the sensitive folds of my sex...
Before I could realize what was happening, Adella had her mouth on me, her tongue in me, and for a split moment, it felt like she was me... She pulled me closer to her, deepening her hold on me, causing me to scream out in ecstasy. My back arched as she did this. I could feel my toes curl as I gripped the dark curls of her hair. "You're mine," Adella declared as she pulled me in for another deep kiss, "forever."
My eyes shot open as the sun's light shone brightly into the room. I looked over to see Hunter was no longer there, which secretly made me happy. I got up, retrieved a cloth, and dampened it before rubbing the cool cloth against my feverish skin. I bit my lip as I thought of my dream; my skin became hotter as my core began to throb at the mere thought. I shook my head, "What am I thinking?" I asked myself.
I decided to get ready for the day and go for a walk. After I was dressed, I went downstairs and was met by Hunter. "Good morning, darling," Hunter said, "where are you off to?" I forced a smile and replied,
"I was thinking about going on a walk."
"I could go with you if you'd like," Hunter suggested, but I shook my head,
"It's fine." I told him, "I may just go to the beach, watch the water, and perhaps search for some seashells for my collection." Hunter nods,
"Alright, just be careful." I placed a kiss on his cheek before waving as I left.
When I reached the beach, I began searching for shells. After a little while, I noticed that I was getting close to the rocks where I had met Adella. My skin was immediately set aflame as I thought of her. I gulped as I slowly approached them as if being pulled toward them.
As I got closer, I could hear soft humming as I peered around the corner. It was her...Adella. Adella stopped humming, turning her head in my direction as if sensing my presence. We stared at each other, both of us in a trance. "Do you remember me?" I asked,
"Yes," Adella answered. She motioned to the rock she was sitting on, offering me a seat beside her. I smile and make my way over to her. "Did you marry the boy?" She asked; I nodded sadly. We sat there in silence, watching as the waves crashed against the shore.
"I-I've been thinking about you..." I said, "romantically." Adella turns her head, facing me, "I don't understand these feelings." I told her, "I-It's not natural. A woman and a mermaid? Who's ever heard of such a thing?" Adella didn't say a word. Instead, she cupped my cheek, leaning in, she kissed my lips. It wasn't like my dream last night; this was softer, even understanding, with a bit of longing behind it. When she pulled away, she muttered,
"I have to." Under her breath. I wasn't sure how to react.
On the one hand, it's wrong, but on the other, it felt so right...
"My people," Adella said, "like creatures, no matter of sex. Humans, other merfolk, etc. We are bound to each other, soulmates, as your kind calls it." I listened closely, but I was still uneasy. "What your kind views as unacceptable or as I overheard a man say, 'unholy,' my people accept. Our queen rules over us no matter who we are or who we love." I stood, stepping away from her, hugging myself,
"I'm married." I said, "I can't..." I choked back a sob, "I should go." Adella grabbed my hand, stopping me in my tracks.
"I think you are my mate, Caspia." Adella said sternly, "We are bound to each other until the day we die." I shook my head as I turned to face her,
"I'm not a mermaid, Adella!" I shouted,
"It doesn't matter." She said, trying to make me see reason, "Even our queen was mated to a human, but she had to return to the sea. She rules over us with such grace and virility...." She stops, studying the design of my face, "You favor her a bit." I shake my head once more,
"There's an error in your logic that you just stated." I told her, "Even if we wanted to be together, we couldn't." Adella reached for my hand again, but I pulled away, "I can't...." And I walked away without another word.
When I returned to the Inn, I rushed past everyone, trying to get to my room. My mind was racing; I searched the room, looking for anything that could give me some form of comfort, and that's when I spotted my mother's trunk. I fell to my knees in front of it and began rummaging through until I found a painting of her and my father. I stroked the picture gently as tears fell from my eyes.
I didn't even hear the door open. When I felt a hand on my shoulder, I realized I wasn't alone. I looked up to see Hunter; he had concern and worry across his face as he sank to my level, "What's wrong, Cas?" I clutched the picture tighter to my body, shaking my head. Hunter didn't pry. He sat down, holding me in his arms, stroking my hair. "I'm here," he muttered, "if you want to talk." He held me tightly, not daring to let me go until he knew I was okay, which was a while.
