Zane's POV
I stared up at the morning sky, lost in thought. Jay and Cole have tried speaking to me, but I have programmed my sensors to tune them out. The triangle bell signaling breakfast rings out. I decide that it is time to face my friends and tell them the truth about what is happening.
I have been keeping it from them for much too long. I slowly get up and drag myself toward
the red painted door. I push it open and I am welcomed by a warm glow from inside.
"Zane!" Kai greets me fondly. "Have you finally broken your 'vow of silence'?" He
questions sarcastically.
"Yes..." I mutter coldly. It came out harsher then I intended.
"Mrphh, pophprp?" Jay asked through a mouthful of breakfast food.
"I do not understand. Your mouth is full, Jay." I reply.
He swallows. "Cole made waffles. You want some?" He asks enthusiastically.
"Wait... You like Cole's cooking?" I exclaim, my jaw dropping.
"Relax, it's from the toaster." Cole says through half-gritted teeth.
"Oh. In that case I will go and get some. They are in the kitchen, correct?"
"No, they're right here." Kai clarifies, handing me a plate with four syrup- soaked waffles.
"Thank you." I say, taking the plate. It feat warm in my chilled hands. I sliced some butter
and watches it melt on the first waffle. It was slow and steady, calming my hyperactive nerves. I sighed.
"Guys," I say slowly, " I have been having...dreams."
"But you're a nindroid, right? Nindroids don't dream." Jay points out.
"Yes. It was a... Malfunction. A mistake."
"I'll bet it's nothing. You worry too much, Zane." Kai says simply with doubt in his eyes.
"No,it's more than that. I can feel it. It is something else!" I proclaim, trying to make them understand.
Kai shrugs. "If you say so."
"What was the dream anyway?" Cole asks suddenly interested.
So I tell them everything. From the forest to the doors. Parts of the dream becoming clearer as
I relay the dream. They stared at me wide- eyed as I finish.
"Wow. Just wow." Jay breathes.
"And you think that this will really happen somehow?" Cole asks quizzically.
I shake my thought-filled head. "I do not know."
The rest of the morning passed in a blur. I hardly noticed anything during training, and before I knew it, it was dinner time. We had microwave spaghetti made by Cole. Although the others talked and joked the whole time, I sat in silence.
"So, Zane." Jay's voice says. I jump.
"Yes?" My voice is shaky.
"You're quiet again. You okay?"
"He's nervous about the dream, moron." Cole retorts.
"Well, obviously!" Jay snaps.
"Please don't argue." I say calmly.
Their angry smiles fade and are replaced with watching eyes. "Really. Are you okay?"
I shake my head. "If I am honest with myself, I really do not know. The dream has some meaning. I just need to find it."
"It may, Zane. But it also may not." I hardly notice Sensei Wu enter the dining room. "Dreams are sometimes reflections of things in our minds, making sense only because we are asleep. Be calm, my student. The time will come when we will find out."
I nod. "But it's more than that..." I whisper so no one else can hear. "They do not understand."
