Kai's POV

I awoke to a burst of laughter above me and an itch on my head. I reached to scratch the itch, and my head was suddenly covered with... Shaving cream? Oh, Jay. Ha ha. Very funny. The old shaving cream trick. I opened my eyes. Jay was looming over me with a broad smile on his face, holding back hoards of laughter. I smeared a gob of the stuff on Jay's face.

"Hey!" He protested, attempting to wipe off the cream. He failed not-so-epically.

"Revenge always seems a bit sweeter when it's one of your pranks failing." I snicker.

"Uh, Kai? Shaving cream is not sweet. It is bitter."

"Jay- Never mind. Where's Zane?"

Jay shook his head almost solemnly. "On the deck, mumbling. He hasn't spoken to us all morning."

That's new. "He was so talkative last night... Have you tried talking to him?" I ask.

Jay shrugs. "I've tried. Cole is trying right now. You wanna give it a go?" He asks.

"I guess I can try." I say, although I know that it will be of no use. When Zane is quiet, he won't start talking until he wants to. End of discussion.

Jay sighs, defeated. "I know, I know. It's hopeless. He won't talk for a million dollars."

"Well," I say, trying to lighten the mood, "Let's go to breakfast. Who's turn is it again?"

Jay slaps a frustrated hand to his forehead. "Oh, no." He exclaims loudly.

"What?" I ask suspiciously. Then suddenly, it dawns on me.

"It's Cole's day to cook breakfast." We chorus and rush out of the room.
