3rd POV
The base rode from the sea as Kaldur punched into the commands. He had gotten a telepathic message from Ariana a few minutes ago, only a few words "I need you" Rex had been fine with a mysterious flight to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, but lowering the ship onto a nonexistent landing pad was a bit of a stretch.
"It'll activate as soon as you're close enough" Kaldur held back a shout. Ariana needed him, and now he was stuck hovering above her house, waiting for the landing pad. A few seconds later, the concrete pad rose from the thrashing sea, and Rex touched down. As soon as the engines were disengaged, an opaque dome covered the pad as it sank into the water
"Where is it taking us?" Cody asked
"To Ariana's home," Kaldur said
"Are you sure she needed you?" Rex asked
"I know her distress calls when I hear them" Kaldur roared. With the stress of Ariana being so badly hurt she called him, and he was getting impatient. Jumping down from the ship, he approached the pad and stuck his webbed hand against it
"Authorized," The computer said
"Alisa, engage emergency closure" Kaldur barked, and the pad started falling faster, to the point where everyone grabbed a handhold to stop from falling over.
As they reached the sea floor, a tunnel appeared to lead them into the house. Kaldur took off in a run, determined to reach Ariana, his friend, his Princess. Trying to keep up with the Atlantean, Rex and Cody ran with him.
He burst through the training room and the kitchen to the Sickbay, where he saw Ariana collapsed on the floor, a pool of golden blood around her.
"F*** F*** F***" Kaldur cussed
"Kaldur?" Will called out "She managed to message you?"
"She did. What happened?" Kaldur snapped his head to the healer
"Ariana came into camp and grabbed me, then took us here. I tried to heal her, but nothing worked" Will admitted. Kaldur bent down and picked Ariana up, ignoring the Ichor now staining his hands
"Activate 01," he said, and a wall panel hissed as it opened, revealing a bed. He lay Ariana on it
"Are you sure you would like to activate 01, Guardian?" Alisa said
"Yes, Alisa, I'm sure" Kaldur sighed
"Activating," Alisa said, and Ariana vanished into the wall.
"WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?!" Will screamed
"It was emergency protocol 01, William Solace," Alisa said
"And what is 01?" Will asked
"It was designed for Ariana and me. We've never used it because situations seldom get this bad" Kaldur sighed
"You and Ariana?" Rex asked
"Her situation is complex, and mine isn't. I swore an Oath to protect her, and I failed" Kaldur shouted "I failed her, and she now holds every right to have me executed"
"WHAT?" Cody and Rex screamed
"She's my Princess. Literally" Kaldur said
"Yes. Lady Ariana is Princess of the Sea and held in high regard by Kaldur's people" Alisa added
"Thank you Alisa" Kaldur spoke while he watched the light show inside the wall where Ariana went before it hissed again
"01 had finished," Alisa said, and the bed ejected into the room.
"Ugh. I hate 01" Ariana groaned, then sat up, looked at Kaldur, and smiled "IT HAS BEEN HALF A YEAR KALDUR!" She jumped up and grabbed him in a chokehold "So, how are you doing?"
"I've been well" Kaldur tossed her over his shoulder and snapped a punch at her face
"Same. What have you been up to?" She dodged and kicked his torso, knocking the wind out of him.
"Lived in England for a while. Went to space" Kaldur shrugged and picked himself up with a wheeze. Ariana furrowed her brow
"Kaldur, you're sick," She said
"No, I'm not" Kaldur defended
"Guardian, you have a fever at a height of 237 degrees Fahrenheit" Alisa added
"Thanks for spilling the beans, Alisa" Kaldur grumbled
"Alisa, please activate 20," Ariana said
"NOPE!" Kaldur said, and he tried to run out the door, but Ariana already had her steel grip around his arm
"Kaldur, you can go around with fever pretending everything is fine" Ariana tossed him over her shoulder, and he stood up again "So you are not leaving this room until you submit to 20"
Rex's POV
Every moment we were around Ariana was weirder. Now she and Kaldur were having a fistfight, her stopping him from leaving
"You've been around Kaldur a lot?" Ariana's voice ran through my head
"Yep," I thought
"Then help me get him in the tube. We're evenly matched right now because I haven't had time to recover my powers. I'm going to kick him back, you grab his arms" She said
"Got it"
Ariana blocked a few punches, then kicked him back. Cody and I managed to grab him and got him on the bed
"Sorry about this" Ariana told him
"Don't you dare," Kaldur said
"Activate 20" Ariana sighed, and he vanished
"So...Can we have a better explanation about your relationship?" I asked her
"Yeah. Do you want the long version or the short version?" She said
"Short one?" Cody asked
"Kaldur and I grew up together. I was preparing to rule the sea, and he was training to be my Guardian. We had to train together so that we could work fluidly in combat. A big war broke out, and I went into a coma. Kaldur, under my father's orders, went up to America and joined a hero team. Three years later, I come out of my coma and go to find him. He swears an oath to protect me, and then I got possessed by an evil guy made of black sand. While that was happening to me, the man I'm fighting kidnapped him and messed with his memories, making it so he was just a normal person and I abandoned him. Then he got tangled up with you, and here we are" Ariana explains
"That is complex. But how did you know he was sick before Alisa said anything?" Cody asked
"I've been with him for the better part of sixteen years. I can tell you anything about him" Ariana laughs
"Favourite food?" I asked
"Kelp cakes with no salt" Ariana looked smug "My stepmother's recipe"
"Dang she's good" Cody admits
"Which reminds me!" Ariana dashes off into another room and reappears with a tray of green cakes. She picks one up and bites it as Kaldur comes out of the wall
"Okay, I admit that I do feel better," Kaldur says, then spies the tray "MINE!"
"NOPE!" Ariana jumps up and is sitting on the chandelier.
"You know those are my fatal weaknesses" Kaldur complains
"Fine" Ariana rolls her eyes and drops a green cake. He snatches it from the air and devours it in a few bites as he waits for Ariana to jump down.
