The Story Teller
┗━━━━━━━━━━━━┛

❝I must be more like myself.❞

YOU SKIPPED HAPPILY through the city, making your way to your favorite place ever... The Shadow Theater. You liked to visit there frequently and it was such a nice place. Not to mention the man who tells the story, he had such a mysterious and great skills in telling stories.

He was so manly and gentle if you were going to be honest.

You had met him before and talked a few times. He even acknowledged you as a regular visitor of the theater. He would sit with you and talk before he starts his shows, this continued until you two became friends. Although he was hiding his face under the hood, you still thought he was someone you can trust. Now come to think of it, you hadn't even asked about his name... not even once. Thus, you decided to ask him today. Plus, you had brought a cake to share with him since it was your birthday and you wanted to have him join you. Of course you celebrated with your family and friends earlier this day.

Anyway, you reached the theater and paid for the a ticket. You went into the theater and took a seat, placing the box beside you. You held into the hem of your shirt as a small blush appeared on your face, "I hope he would agree to go out with me for my birthday." You thought with a bit of nervousness. It would be so embarrassing if he refused your invitation.

"I see you came today too, huh?"

A voice snapped you out of your thoughts. You looked up and saw the cloaked man you meet up almost everyday. You blushed lightly with a small smile, "O-Oh! Hello, Mr. Story Teller!" You greeted, using the nickname you made for him a few seconds ago. He chuckled and tilted his head, "Mr. Story Teller? That's a new name, I see." He amused with a smirk on his face. You flinched slightly as your face turned red, "I-I'm sorry! I don't know your name and I didn't know what to call you, so I made up this name!" You reasoned while covering your face to hide the blush.

The man chuckled and sat beside you, "I don't mind it, it has a mysterious ring in it if I'm being honest. It's fair for you to know my name since I know yours, my name is Macaque." You removed your hands slowly and looked at him, "Macaque... That's such a powerful name! I like it, better than the stupid nickname I made." You thought as your blush calmed down a bit.

"By the way, isn't it your birthday today?"

"Huh? How did you know?"

Macaque chuckled and waved his hand around, "A little bird told me." He answered with a teasing smile. You blinked your green eyes a few times before realization hit you, "Ehhhh! Did Urara tell you?! She betrayed me! How could she do that?!" You questioned with surprise, referring to your crow that you take care of. You knew you shouldn't let her wander around Megapolis or come with you to the theater, she had ruined her surprised. Macaque sweatdropped slightly, "Whoa, calm down. I didn't mean it literally, I just know." He stated which made you stop your little temper tantrum.

"Oh... In that case, would you like to celebrate my birthday with me?"

Macaque was slightly taken aback by your request, you appeared genuine when you asked. He thought of it for a moment, he had nothing to do later or anyone to hang out with. It won't hurt to accompany you at least this once, plus you wanted to have him join your celebration. He gave you a mischievous smile and nodded, "Alright, let's meet in the park after work." He said which made you smile happily. You nodded your head in agreement, "Of course! I will be waiting for you there!" You confirmed while clasping your hands together.

"It's time for the show, I'm sure you will love this story. See you later, bright eyes."

With that being said, Macaque stood up and left, leaving you there dumbfounded. Your face slowly heated up when it clicked, "HE CALLED ME BRIGHT EYES!!!"

You sat under a tree, waiting for Macaque to arrive. You had been waiting for a while and it was almost sunset which means that people are leaving the park to go home. You had left the theater early because you wanted to get a good spot in the park. You told Macaque about this and he agreed, saying that he would meet you there after he was done.

You let out a sigh and leaned on the tree trunk, "Where is he? Did he change his mind? Or still have more shows and stories to tell?" You thought and closed your eyes for a bit. Just then...

"Sorry for keeping you waiting, sweet plum."

The familiar voice rang in your ears and you snapped your eyes open, "Macaque-..." You called, but stopped when you saw a... monkey? You two stared at each other for a moment before you spoke up, "Who are you?" You asked with confusion while pointing at him. The voice was tad familiar like Macaque's, but the appearance... this wasn't him, right? The black monkey blinked a few times before laughing, "Well, I don't blame you for this. You don't know how I look, but I assure you that I'm the one and only Macaque." He proclaimed with a proud smile.

You looked at him with dotted eyes before you jumped up, "EEEHHH! You're Macaque?!" You exclaimed loudly as your green eyes widened. The shadow demon sweatdropped at your reaction and scratched the back of his head, "Yeah, I'm not what you expected, rig-..."

"No no no! It's not like this, I just didn't know!"

Macaque chuckled again before pulling something out of his pocket, "Here, this for you. It would be rude if I didn't get you a birthday gift, huh?" He said as he held a pair of green socks to you. You covered your mouth in shock as you stared at the simple gift.

"You didn't really have to get me anything, I just wanted to hang out with you

"You didn't really have to get me anything, I just wanted to hang out with you." You stated, gently grabbing the socks from him. Macaque shrugged his shoulders in dismissal, "Nah, it's fine. You had bothered yourself to bring a cake with you, so this is the least I can do." He retorted and crossed his arms. You hugged the socks with a small blush on yiur cheeks, "Thank you so much! I will take good care of it!" You happily exclaimed.

Macaque let out a sigh before smiling. You were the first person he had encountered this far after he cut all connections he had with his... old companions. You were innocent, pure, and kind, nothing like the people he used to know. It won't hurt to get close to you, after all you and him will just be friends.

Right?
