When morning came around, Cassie was expecting to be in her bed after the strange dream she had, but she was being shaken awake by someone, and impatiently so. Her eyes opened and she saw the same person—well, demon—that she saw last night. He groaned once she finally woke up.
"Finally. Your alarm's been going off and you have like ten of them set, how'd you not hear that?"
Without a word, she looked at her phone on the couch beside her and saw three of her five alarms had gone off. Levi was quick to return to the game and when Cassie looked, she saw a familiar building.
"Oh wow, you decided to go there first?" Levi said nothing. Cassie then got up and realized she'd be going to school with a stranger in her house. "Hey, you're not gonna ruin my place are you? I'm just renting this place."
"Ugh, of course not. I'm a little too busy right now. Leave me alone."
Her eyes slightly rolled. "So annoying…" Muttering that to herself, she went back to her bedroom to get ready for the day.
It hadn't occurred to her last night, but now she was a bit concerned about leaving someone in her apartment. She managed to convince herself, however, that if Levi had been playing all night and was already on his way to his first boss—something that took her nearly the same amount of time—then maybe he was being truthful.
"I guess I'll just have to believe the demon."
…
School was like any other day, unlike her night, which had her standing around the cafeteria scrolling through her Pinterest boards. It was nearly an hour before her class was to start and it wasn't long until there was someone on her shoulder.
"Oh, who's that?"
Cassie looked over to see her friend, Quana. The artificial lighting only helped to enhance the almost doll-like appearance her friend had.
"Oh, it's some athlete. I was helping my mom with this sports app and I thought he was a little cute. Apparently I'm not the only one."
"He is your type." Quana stood in front of Cassie. "But is he to blame for you ignoring me last night?"
"What?"
"Are your messages broken or something? I was trying to talk to you last night."
Cassie went to check the messages and suddenly ten or so messages all popped up at the same time. There was an increasing amount of hostility as they went on and Cassie looked back to Quana seeing the deep pout she had.
"Sorry, you know I keep it on dnd."
"Well add me to a favorite list or something, last night I really needed your help." She whined.
"With what? It obviously wasn't life or death considering you're here right now."
"No, I just wanted to know what earrings I should have paired with my outfit. See, I was gonna post on my page after my followers asked for a classy club outfit."
"And you think I was the best person for that?"
"Yeah, you have a good eye since you're not worried about brands and stuff, you just pick what looks good."
Cassie scoffed, but they started to walk in the main hallway. Devoid of any students, they walked the halls with relative ease.
"Oh, and I was also texting you to see if I could come over to your place."
"To study?"
"Yeah, there's a lame practice exam I have to take and you were right, that game you got is really good for studying and sleeping."
