~Almost two months later~
The 4th of July was coming up so Avery, Betty, Veronica, Archie, and Jughead were working on a float for the parade in Pop's parking lot when Cheryl pulls up getting out her car.
"Well, well, well. Stop the presses. The Riverdale rag has finally reported a story accurately. Not only is there going to be some hideous janky parade sneaking it way through town, you five are the architects of this outrage." Cheryl complains.
"I'm only helping. Against my will." Avery says glaring at Jughead.
"What's your problem, Cheryl?" Veronica asks.
"My problem, Veronica, is that the 4th of July is a day of tragedy for Riverdale, not celebration. Or have you forgotten what happened to my poor brother Jason?" Cheryl asks putting her hands on her hips.
"Cheryl, Riverdale hasn't held a parade out of respect for what happened to your brother in...like years. I think it's time..." Betty says.
"I mean....you don't have to come" Jughead says, Avery laughs quietly.
"Oh I'll be there. Insufferable Smurf. Front and center, with a sign of protest in one hand, and a horn of compressed air to silence any revelry in the other." Cheryl says turning around getting in her car and leaving.
"Great." Veronica says.
"Anyone hungry for breakfast?" Jughead asks, everyone says yes and goes inside.
"So, camping this weekend, are we still on?" Jughead asks.
"I'm open, but what are we talking about here? Like..." Veronica says, Betty laughs a little.
"The woods. But remember, this could....possibly be our last summer to do this, because next year we'll be getting ready to go to college." Betty says.
And if anyone is scared of bears, well, don't be, because Archie's been attacked like what multiple times and still survived." Jughead says.
"Hey I wear my scars proudly" Archie says getting up and answering his phone.
"Well I'm not going camping because I have a road trip planned and I'm leaving like soon" Avery says eating a bite of her pancake, she drops her fork and rushes to Archie who has fallen to his knees. Archie regaled what the phone call was about. The death of Fred Andrews. Avery just gotten home from Pop's where she found out what happen she is very emotional.
"Daddy" Avery says hugging her father who is upset from hearing the news of his closest friend passing.
"I know sweetheart" he says tearfully rubbing her back, after standing their Avery goes down stairs to Sweet Pea. Sweet Pea jumps up from the bed walking over to her seeing the streams of tears down her face.
"Aves, I just heard the news, I'm so sorry" Sweet Pea says pulling her into a hug.
"It was a hit and run...." she says sobbing into his chest.
"I know. I know" he whispers kissing her head, she pulls away.
"I'm gonna shower then go to bed" she says, he nods and she walks upstairs showering then going back downstairs to bed.
~ The next day~
The next day Avery is awoken by a phone call from Cheryl.
