"Shea!" I called after her. She ignored me and stormed out the door.

"Who was it this time, Luke?" Beau asked sarcastically.

"No one! Amy's spreading rumors! Can't she just leave me alone?! Shea!" I ran out.

"Leave me alone, Luke. I swear I'll kill you."

"Shea, I didn't do anything! Whatever you heard, it-- it's not true!" I shrieked.

Amy was ruining everything. She fucking burnt down Shea's house for fuck's sake! Now she was trying to break us apart again.

"Whatever, Luke! I need some alone time! Maybe I'll jump off a bridge while I'm at it!" Shea yelled.

"That isn't even funny," I said sternly, catching up to her. "At all."

"Wasn't trying to be funny, Luke. I'm serious."

"Why would you say that?" I asked.

"Because! Honestly, Beau, BEAU has paid more attention to me than you! And he's been at Vanessa's house most of the time to help her while she's got this cold!"

I frowned. I had kind of been shutting Shea out lately. I was just freaking out that Jai and Bradi were having a baby. Named Braiden, by the way. And if it's a girl, god don't let it be a girl, they're so excited about the name Braiden, it'll be Jaimie.

"See? Have you even listened to a word I said?!" Shea glared at me.

I blinked. Shit, I did it again.

"Shea, listen. I know I haven't really paid attention to you lately but I'm just excited for Jai and Bradi. Aren't you?"

"Yes, Luke. But they're their own couple. I'm your girlfriend. And if you still want me to be, I suggest you don't pay attention to your brother's girlfriend more than me."

I sighed. "I know. And Amy's lying, okay? She's a liar. She's Amy. Just don't listen to her."

"Wasn't gonna."

Suddenly, a small black lab puppy came running down the road.

"Well, hi buddy!" I called. I squatted down and patted my thigh as it ran towards us.

It ran to Shea first and licked her hands and face before making its way over to me. I rubbed up and down his--it was a boy-- back and smiled.

"Where's your owner? Hmm?" Shea asked, looking around.

The puppy rolled on his back and let his tongue hang out of his mouth. I laughed and rubbed his belly.

"Lucky!" A little girl's voice came from the road ahead of us.

The dog's ears perked up as he jumped to his feet.

I looked up and saw a little girl, maybe six or seven years old, with a bright pink bandanna wrapped around her hairless head.

"I'm sorry! I tried putting him on his leash but he took off before I could," she said quickly, out of breath.

I almost felt Shea just. . . melt beside me.

"Is this your puppy?" she asked softly.

The little girl nodded. "I got him a few weeks ago. He was real little then. And my daddy says things are going good!"

Shea smiled warmly. "Oh yeah? Well, my friend Vanessa has a puppy too. I think she might have a leash you can borrow to get Lucky home."

The little girl's eyes lit up. "Thank you!"

Shea grinned and nodded. "Follow me!"

I watched the two of them and Lucky walk into the garage of Vanessa's house and get the leash.

Ever wanted to just grab someone and hug them so tightly they might have trouble breathing? That's how I felt with this little girl. She was so cute! And the bandanna. . .

Shea came running back with her and lucky on the blue leash, both smiling.

"Thank you again!" said the little girl.

"Of course!" Shea smiled at her.

"And thank you for making sure Lucky didn't get hurt."

It took a few moments to realize that she directed that sentence toward me.

"Oh! No problem, sweetie!" I smiled.

"Well, bye! Thanks again, guys!" the little girl smiles and started running down the street with Lucky.

I wrapped my arm around Shea.

"So, we're okay?" I asked.

She nodded and kissed my cheek.

"I don't want to sound like a hypocrite but I have to go get tissues and stuff for Vanessa so. . ."

I laughed. "I'll see you later, then?"

"Yep! Bye, Luke." She gave me a quick kiss and ran to her car.

I smiled and walked inside, glad that everything was cleared up and great.

"Vanessa!" I called as I opened the door to her house.

"Did you bring my things?" she asked in her groggy cold voice.

"Yep! Tissues with aloe, the good cough drops, all of the Disney Pixar movies, Popsicles, and those fuzzy socks!" I giggled and walked into her living room.

"This is why I love you," she said, grinning.

"So what first? Toy Story? Monsters Incorporated? Cars?"

"Surprise me," she said as she blew her nose.

I nodded and turned on the DVD player and put in Monsters Incorporated.

"Can you put the Popsicles in the freezer so that they don't melt? Oh, but give me a red one first!"

I laughed and handed her a red Popsicle, then went to the kitchen and put them in the freezer.

I glanced at the window, then looked at it again.

"What the. . . ?" I walked to the window.

"Amy! Would you get out of here?!" I yelled.

She stood up from the bushes and fixed her blonde curly hair.

"Rumors are lies, Shea. Facts are the truth. Where do you think Luke was last night? With Beau?" She laughed. "Get real."

I rolled my eyes and shut the blinds. But I still couldn't help but wonder. Was Luke with her last night? Was he just lying really well again? I sighed and walked to Vanessa.

Please let him be telling the truth. Please.
