Max's POV:

Dylan and I didn't even looked at each other after the fight. It was like a silent agreement to let each other focus on the Championship. I was scared of the outcome.

I wanted to apologize, I wanted to kiss her and tell her I'm sorry. But I know that would just lead to the same as always, she was tired of me, I could tell and I didn't blame her. But I missed her.

I looked at her as she put her balaclava on. Christian was talking to her and she kept nodding. I could see her nerves were through the roof. Christian patted her shoulder giving her a comforting smile. She put her helmet on and Christian walked towards me.

I saw her turn around towards me and our eyes met for a brief second. I raised my eyebrows slightly as her brown eyes softened for a bit. She turned around immediately and I closed my eyes for a brief second sighing.

"Max." Christian pulled me out of my thoughts and I looked at him. "Whatever happens you gave a good fight. You and Dylan are both amazing drivers, okay?" He put his hands on my shoulders and I nodded.

He smiled and I smiled back. He walked away and I looked down. Half a point of difference, I was just half a point in front of Dylan.

I looked at her seeing her talk to the engineers. She caught my eye again and my heart skipped a beat again and I looked away.

Stay focused Max. I put my balaclava on to get ready to get in the car.

Dyl's POV:

I swallowed hard seeing him put his helmet on. The engineer's voice blurring as background noise.

"Dylan." He called me pulling me out of my thoughts. "Are you listening?" He asked.

"Yeah." I replied nodding.

Focus Dylan.

Focus.

"Okay, you're ready." He told me and I smiled a little bit. "Good luck." He told me and I nodded.

I got in the car. I was handed a steering wheel as I felt my breath get heavy. The nerves hitting me as I heard the crowd cheering. They were waiting for a fight, for a show.

I closed my eyes.

Focus Dylan.

Breathe.

I gripped the steering wheel and went out into the pits, the crowd cheering as the cars started coming out of the garage for the formation lap.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2021
Narrator's POV:

Max was coming out in pole making Dylan even more nervous. But Max couldn't pull his thoughts away from his teammate, what would he say to her after the race? Will he even speak to her after this?

He closed his eyes feeling the heat of the cockpit increase, waiting for the cars on the back of the grid to get into position.

The grand stands where filled with people cheering, each of them supporting a team or driver. The safety car stopped as the last car got in position.

"We got Max Verstappen on pole, Dylan González just behind him. Half a point of difference between the title contenders, anything can happen in this exciting season finale. The championship defining moment." Crofty narrated as the crowd waited impatiently for the start.

The red lights started lighting up one by one as the green flag was waved. Dylan took a deep breath gripping the steering wheel. Max breathed heavily, feeling sweat trickling down his forehead.
