The Boston Rose surged up and over, heading directly away from the massive new alien armada; the rest of Relor's task force followed suit, running at best speed away from the enemy, simultaneously all ships were spitting out shuttles, that were flying in between the Ranger and their parent ship. All crew was being evacuated from that doomed vessel. They couldn't leave anyone behind.
Relor hated wasting such a valuable ship. They don't have many Proximas in the fleet, and they're a relic of a time of more tension with the Klingons, Romulans and Gorn. Refit to modern standards of course. Starfleet simply didn't build new ships like her as of current, as international tensions were less heated, and Starfleet could focus on exploration and research again. His task force would probably have nearly half the firepower when the Ranger had to be left behind, a blow he wasn't willing to allow the enemy to throw at him without returning at least one favour.
"Incoming transmission from the Ranger," Lieutenant Sabina reported.
"On screen," Relor replied.
"Captain Relor," Began Commander Wang, acting captain of the USS Ranger after her actual Captain was detained by Relor, "I am going to stay behind on my ship. I will cover the retreat of our forces, and destroy the damaged alien vessel we didn't finish killing. Don't worry about me dying, I will transport to a shuttle before my ship's destruction. If I'm killed trying to escape at least it's not on your conscience that I killed myself, it will have been the enemy that killed me,"
"Very well, Commander," Relor replied after a brief pause, "I hope to see some good shooting out there, and you sitting on my bridge afterwards chatting about how much you miss your ship,"
"Yes, sir. Wang out,"
"Sabina, send a message to Starfleet Command, and then all nearby starbases. An alien invasion fleet has appeared through the rift. Thirty-three ships. Add onto that one disabled enemy ship still in orbit of the planetoid. Request Starfleet Command to fully mobilise our naval forces. USS Ranger has its warp drive disabled and will have to be left behind. It is covering the retreat of the rest of my task force. My ships are overcrowded with the crew from the Ranger, pulling back to the nearest possible Starbase. Relor out. Also, [comms] send them all sensor data we have on the enemy ships, sorted into the different types of ships we've encountered," Relor ordered.
"Sir, final count on the number of fighters and strike craft launched. Two thousand fighters, two hundred strike craft," Lieutenant Commander Marquez reported.
"These aliens are very thorough," Commander Andrews commented humorously.
Three minutes after the shuttles started flying between the Ranger for the second time today, they all ended up docked in their parent ships, except for a few shuttles from the Ranger that docked in other ships in the fleet. As soon as the Ranger was clear of all shuttles around her, and only a portion of her shuttle complement was left in her bays, she rolled one hundred and eighty degrees, dived below the plane of the system and rose back up to now be facing directly away from where her original course was, she now directly faced the enemy armada (albeit 'upside down' from the rest of the ships in the task force).
The powerful Federation Starship barreled towards the massive incoming threat, on a direct course with the damaged alien cruiser Relor's task force didn't manage to finish off the first time around.
"Computer, automate the targeting of incoming small alien craft. Each phaser emitter must independently target, and set the power of the phasers to low enough to destroy one enemy craft in a point-five second burst, no higher," Commander Wang ordered the main computer aboard his ship, the USS Ranger.
