Taskforce Delta exited warp at the fringes of the Wang system, their sensors taking a moment to process exactly what they were seeing from the sheer amount of debris and "unknown" elements and alloys.
"Positions on enemy vessels?" Relor asked.
"Sir, three enemy cruisers are in orbit of the planetoid near the rift. There appears to be more of those cargo ships, one just exited the rift now and another has just entered the system en route to the rift," Lieutenant T'Ren replied.
"Battlestations," Andrews ordered, his voice echoing throughout the Bostone Rose.
Relor ordered his Taskforce into a formation with the Boston Rose and Emden in the front, flanked by the Challenger on the aft port and the Bodacious on the aft starboard of the front row. The two Mirandas (the Persistent and the Saratoga) brought up the middle, with the Copernicus just behind them, safe in the middle of the formation and the P'Jem bringing up the rear.
All ships under Relors command advanced at three-quarter impulse towards the enemy, weapons charged and trpedo tubes loaded. It only took Taskforce Delta twenty minutes until they were in range of the enemy's long-range heavy weapons, and then all hell broke loose.
"Incoming fire!" Marquez shouted.
"Shields down to eighty percent!" The Engineering officer shouted.
"Do not fucking budge this ship, Brown! If our shields are at eighty what would the Copernicus' shields be at under the same fire? Hold fast!" Relor shouted out across the bridge.
"Load two long-range torpedoes, prepare to fire. Overcharge the heavy phaser and stand ready" Andrews ordered Marquez, following Relor's plan.
The Boston Rose fired its torpedoes and again, just like the previous engagements, timed her heavy phaser to hit just before the torpedoes hit. No penetration of their shields was visible, however. They must've already shunted power to their forward shields.
"Shields at seventy-five percent! The Emden's is at sixty-five!"
"Weapons range in ten...nine...eight...seven...six...five..." Marquez began counting down.
"Order the task force to scatter and head for the far port side of the enemy formation, keep that one enemy cruiser between us and them just like last time, except do not stop moving. Evasive manoeuvres! Dish out as much fire as possible in the shortest time!" Relor shouted at Sabina.
"three...two..one,"
Space lit up with bright red balls of light as over a dozen photon torpedoes flew out from the formation, joined shortly by immense amounts of red and green beams, smashing into the shields of the enemy cruiser furthest to port with incredible force, causing gaps in the enemy's defensive fields to form.
"Order every ship in the fleet to slightly change the modulation of their phasers, ensure every ship has a different modulation. Whichever modulation appears to do the most damage, have every ship change to that. Let's pound them," Relor ordered.
The Federation ships continued their barrage of the enemy ship, albeit now they did so whilst testing which phaser modulation would be the most effective against the enemy shields, trying their best to do as much damage as possible. The P'Jem's phasers were a different type to the rest of the fleet, and so had no success in changing their modulation, however whenever a gap appeared in the enemy's defences, the P'Jems phasers ripped through the enemy's hull with greater ease than the standard-issue phaser emitters that were installed on the rest of Relor's ships.
The amount of fire coming from the enemy ships was staggering. Insane amounts of dull red bolts filled space, but their damage was lessened by the main cruisers of Relor's task force absorbing most of the punishment, the evasive manoeuvres taken by the Starfleet ships and the fact that they were trying their best to put the target enemy cruiser between them and the other two enemy cruisers.
