"Lieutenant Commander Marquez, status update please," Relor requested. The Boston Rose and the rest of Taskforce Delta under Commodore Relor's command had just exited warp, after spending a couple of days travelling at Warp factor eight, patching any holes and jury-rigging any repairs they could. They were now in the Psi Serpentis star system, the home system of the planet of Sauria, a member planet of the Federation. There was a slight problem with this member planet, however. The aliens were here.

"Two large enemy contacts. Two of the ring ships. An unknown amount of smaller vessels. They look like large shuttles, landing craft and fighters, sir," Marquez answered.

"Lieutenant Sabina, what's the status of Alpha and Beta, as well as the reserve and mothball fleets," Relor asked.

"Alpha and Beta are twenty minutes and forty minutes away respectively, the reinforcement fleet assigned to us is the Third Reactivated Reserves, comprised of nine ships; they will be here in three days. Also en route is the Second Cruiser Squadron, however, Taskforce Echo has priority on that squadron, as they are forming a new Taskforce. Taskforce Charlie, or what's left of it is also having a further five ships diverted. Seventy-five percent of our up-to-date combat-capable ships are being diverted to this sector of space as well as twenty-five percent of our reserves. Most of the reserves are staying behind to hold the fort," Sabina reported at length.

"Time to intercept the closest enemy ship?" Relor asked.

"Fifteen minutes at full impulse, sir,"

"Take us in at one-quarter impulse, wait until our other Taskforces arrive, then we will coordinate an assault," Relor instructed.

"You have to feel bad for the saps in the Akulas and Oberths this time of year," Andrews said, trying to bring some light to the situation with a strange mix of reality and a twinge of dark humour.

"Imagine being sent to the mothball ships. Modern ships aren't even doing well enough," Marquez added.

"Flying coffins," Brown added darkly.

Twenty minutes later, Taskforce Alpha appeared at the far side of the Psi Serpentis system and immediately began pelting at full impulse to a frozen planet further in the system than where they exited warp, which would be the rendevous point with Beta.

"Incoming transmission from Starfleet Command. Taskforce Echo is en route, aswell as the Second Cruiser Squadron," Lieutenant Sabina reported.

"Very good," Relor responded.

"Do you think they're expecting a big battle? Or are they just being thorough?" Andrews asked.

"I'm not sure, to be honest with you. I hope we're just being thorough," Relor responded.

"Well considering we're bringing what? Alpha, Beta and Delta are bringing seventeen ships, all up-to-date. The Third Reserves are bringing nine ships, Echo is bringing eight ships, and the Second Cruiser Squadron is bringing three ships. That leaves us with thirty-seven ships overall with all our forces combined. How many other task forces do we have in the area? Are we contesting any other systems at all or have we just put all our eggs in one basket?"

"I do believe we have just 'put all our eggs in one basket' Mr Andrews," Relor answered.

"Ten minutes until Beta is here, estimated half an hour until Alpha and Beta have rendezvoused, and then a further ten minutes until they intercept the enemy ring ship," Marquez estimated.

"Lieutenant Sabina, send that estimate to Alpha, and tell them we're basing our intercept time on those estimates. Tell them to be on time," Relor ordered. "Andrews, does Alpha or Beta have a Commodore in command?"
