The sea gurgled Toorak. Around him his ship fell apart as it sunk. Shipping containers that once sustained his craft sank quickly, the metal rectangles rent open by the attack. Bodies and some living surged around him. He thumbed the sphere hoping it could somehow save him. His thoughts lost cohesion, a great sadness mingled with wrath closed his eyes as he understood death had arrived. Then came a glow.
Orange filled him like the magnificent dawn, two spheres encircled and a great warmth entered him. In a moment, he was breathing and resting upon something that felt like a nest. He opened his eyes and a naked woman held them, she glistened and smiled mechanically, her blonde hair strange, as if made from cultivated wheat.
"You live Toorak, we know you. Pole Shift child, son of Helen and Jimmy. We see all."
Another Orange glow burned in the ocean outside, it circled then came close. The Orbs touched and became one. A naked man stepped into the soft orange nest. His eyes were hard and strange, his own hair glistened like dark wet minerals.
"The Sun and the Moon." Muttered Toorak, feeling awe and fear.
"Yes the new people say that, they think us Gods. We are I suppose. They are a lost people now and will never know the things their fathers knew. They may return to the animal kingdom, unless they are helped." The two exchanged glances and it was hard for Toorak to garner meaning, but he sensed fear and amusement. The man spoke:
"We are not Gods though, we survived the Pole Shift like Jimmy and Helen. We are of Ebba, Jimmy is of Perez. Who are you of Toorak?"
"Of my brothers! I am Toorak of my brothers!"
"Your brothers are dead, your 'Lord' Jimmy knew it would happen, do you hate him for it?" Lett purred the words, and Toorak's own empathic sense knew she was testing him, getting to the heart of him.
"I do not hate. Some game has been played. Perez has guided my father's hand." Macka and Lett passed communication with eye contact. Lett spoke:
"He will know you survived, he has a very ancient technology bestowed upon him. Atoms talk, molecules pass on stories. Quarks will tell him you were saved by us. He will know, will he pursue you?" Toorak thought, not quite understanding that technology had something to do with Lord Jimmy's soothsaying, but understanding Lord Jimmy had no vendetta against him.
"He will not. He wants to destroy the Himalayan Fleet, or Perez does. I am glad, for it seems they will attack without parley. Our destruction is a reason, he can defeat them without blame, without doubts entering our people."
"Yes Toorak, that is right. The Himalayans as you call them are bold. We have watched them, entered their dreams. They are many, there are other fleets, they wish to be a uniformity in all lands, understanding that others will evolve counter civilizations. The Chin have always played the long game." Toorak did not follow, No one talked like that on the boats. They sang old songs and played games and hunted shipping containers. He shook his head.
"You are a worthy man. You are of Ebba in heart, will you lead the new peoples? Their fathers, The Elites of Australia knew so much but were destroyed in the first battle. Will you show them a way that leads them away from the animal kingdom?" Toorak did not pause:
"I will."
