CHAPTER 11
I honestly had no desire to go back, but Luca insisted on following orders and would not be persuaded to do otherwise. So here we were, back in school, and it was as though we never left. Okay that was false.
We returned late in the evening, and everyone was out and about with a subdued expression, and as soon as I am spotted they vanished, literally, as if they were never there in the first place.
Luca walked me right to my door and watched me enter, and left me with me with a reassuring
"stay inside, as long as you are in there, no one can enter without your permission," Then promptly left.
I was left alone with my thoughts, and that night I heard them again. This time however, they were not running off to do something most definitely illegal, they were just hanging around. And instead of panicking, I made myself comfortable on my window seat and just watched them quietly. I watched as they jumped, ran, laughed, and spurned under the gentle gaze of the moon.
They seemed empowered by it's light, and cocooned by blankets of it's darkness, and they looked unstoppable.
Unbeknownst to me, I was slowly becoming comfortable. I searched around with my eyes and found Luca leaning against a tree half asleep, I could easily spot Kai's bright red hair, he stood out among hundreds of students as he shook back his hair, unbuttoned his shirt, and let his hips loose. Dancing to a rhythm I was sure no one else could hear. The girls were definitely not complaining though, as most of them stood around him as if aching for a glimpse. Dre was on guard, grudgingly keeping watch, as if he was afraid Kai might be stolen under his nose, and considering how oblivious and into his head Kai seemed, that might have happened more than once.
Noah's golden hair could be spotted up a tree as he stared at the sky, as if waiting for the night to reveal it's secrets. Ashton was involved in some arm wrestling match, and kept saying things that made everyone around him burst out in raucous laughter from time to time.
Bob was engaged in some kind of dance competition, and seemed to be having loads of fun with Min Ha cheering him on. It was suddenly very lonely and quiet up here in my room, and I wished to join them. I felt someone or something watching me and reluctantly closed my windows to retire for the night.
The next morning I was petrified, terrified even. Walking down the hallway was an horror movie all on it's own, and I desperately wished I had stayed behind, but knew I could not.
I stared forward, and refused to look anywhere else for the rest of my classes. I could feel the stares biting into my skin all day, but felt safe with the knowledge that no one would approach me.
Lunch time was not so lucky for me though. I sat in my secluded table with head phones on, and my food in front of me. I was just getting into it when a shadow fell across me. Glancing up, I was greeted with Dre's apologetic face.
"Umm, what's up?" I asked him, my eyes confused, fearful even, and my tone reluctant, he shifted.
"Can we_um can we talk?" He asked hesitantly. Confused, I nodded and he happily took a seat immediately.
"So, I just wanted to apologise for yesterday," He began, now it was my turn to shift uncomfortably, cause I knew what had happened yesterday was my fault.
"Umm, don't apologize, it's alright, for real," I muttered. There was a small awkward pause. And he waited for a full minute before clearing his throat.
"Sooooo, there are some people that would like to apologize as well." He informed me. And now I was fidgeting.
"But it's alright. I don't blame you guys. No one can help what they are." I said, trying to dissuade him and make him return to his seat. Instead he looked at me with those big brown eyes that reminded me of light coffee mixed with swirls of gold. Then stood up abruptly.
