CHAPTER 12
"Maeve? Maeve wake up, you have to wake up."
I groaned, moving about restlessly. I was stuck in a semi conscious state, or maybe I was just experiencing a sleep paralysis, I could not really tell. I was on my bed, asleep yet awake, when I saw her.
She was ethereal. With long silky silver hair, glowing dark skin, big silver eyes, and a petite figure. And she looked a lot like me. She was staring at me, leaning over me and trying to touch me, but for some reason she never could.
"Maeve? Its almost time, you have to wake up."
"who are you?" I tried to ask, but I could not find my voice. She began to slowly fade with an iridescent glow. She was becoming lighter, hands still stretched forward. "Wake up. Maeve? Maeve? Wake up," She kept saying, and even after she faded completely, I could still hear the eerie echoes of her voice. "Maeve? Maeve, wake up."
Ever since I figured out what my new pals were exactly, it felt like I was triggered. Every night since then, this look alike version of me would visit me in my dreams and ask me to wake up. She never stopped, each night she looked a little different than the night prior, but what never changed was the silver hair, eyes, and our striking resemblance. At this point I was beyond creeped out and needed urgent help, or maybe therapy.
Life had been otherwise great this past few weeks and I had gotten to know the guys a lot better, we hung out all the time, and whenever I was with them I felt invisible, like nothing could hurt me here. I felt secure enough to put down roots, the only down side was this nagging voice in my head that kept screaming "Maeve!"
I could not sleep all night after that, my only joy was that it was Saturday and it meant I could do whatever I wished which was getting back into bed the moment I got out of this shower. All in all it was a great plan, but there was one factor I failed to consider.
"Yo Paris! Come on man, open up," Someone shouted outside, someone that sounded a lot like Kai. I decided to ignore him, that was the only solution really. I tied my hair in a scarf and got back under the covers.
"Paris?! I know you are in there! I can hear you you know," Kai shouted again, this time I groaned.
"Oh my god Kai, what the fuck do you want?" I shouted right back.
"I want you to open the door idiot!" He screamed back in a very high pitched voice. I threw my pillow above my head in an attempt to shut him out.
"Don't talk to him like that," A sweet voice murmured outside as well. I groaned again because that sounded a lot like Noah, and I still have not figured out how to tell him no yet.
"Come on Paris, open up, I brought you breakfast," Noah tried again, and I practically flew out of bed to the door. Say what you want, but I have never turned down breakfast before. I quickly unlocked the door, and met Noah and Kai standing with wide grins.
"I want the breakfast, but I am not sure it's wise to invite you guys in," I said, folding my arms and leaning against the door. Kai frowned.
"Who told you about that," He asked, raising an eyebrow. Noah had a similar expression, without the frown of course, he was too sweet for that.
"Luca," I promptly answered. "He taught me all about it."
Kai just nodded and waited, while shifting impatiently. Noah stepped forward.
"That's nice of Luca, but you can let us in, we are not going to hurt you," He smiled sweetly, all sunrise and summer breeze. "I promise."
I thought about it, Noah was really too sweet to hurt me, but he was also a Vampire and I could not dismiss that. Kai was great as well and they were my friends, but what is friendship without trust?
"Fine, come in already," I rolled my eyes, and invited them in with a grand gesture. Noah just bounded in like an over eager puppy, while Kai looked surprised but came in anyway.
We ended up eating my so called breakfast together, and were now reclining on my bed talking about nothing and everything until Kai said something very important.
"Are you an orphan Paris?" He asked, and I quickly ceased what I was doing to look at him in surprise.
"No, no I am not. But why?" I asked with a frown. He simply furrowed his brows.
"Okay, are your parents somewhere else then?" He asked again, and I frowned again.
"Still no, my Mom is here, why do you ask?" I questioned, Noah was just watching quietly.
"Do you not wish to see her?" He asked yet again. I was impatient now.
"Of course I do you numbskull, out with it Kai," I told him leaning forward now. Noah cleared his throat.
"You know you can leave on weekends if you wish to, right?" He asked quietly. I turned to Kai with my brows raised.
"Yes you can," He agreed, and I was shooketh.
"How come no one told me!" I shouted, and they both exchanged grins.
"We thought you knew, you are not a prisoner you know," Noah smiled, and I scowled.
"I thought I kinda was seeing as you guys would'nt want me running to the cops!" I shouted.
"We trust you," Noah said, smiling at me. I stared at him baffled.
"You trust me, and because you do I am free to go as I please?" I was still in doubt.
"Not just us of course," Kai laughed. "Elijah trusts you as well, and once he does, so do we," He ended.
Now I was even more baffled, Elijah trusts me? I could only remember the angry looks and threatening glances that took places the times we interacted. But I took a deep breath and decided it was unwise to question fate.
"Well this is absolutely wonderful!" I cried, jumping to my feet and startling the poor boys. "I am going home! So long suckers!" I laughed at my own pun, whirling around my room and throwing things in a bag. Noah cleared his throat.
"Umm before you get all hyped about going home, we wanted to know if you would like to hangout and stuff," He asked, watching my face. I paused.
"Hangout? Where? And who else is going?" I demanded.
"Everyone baby," Kai laughed, and tossed back his hair.
"Alright Ginger, does this mean Elijah is going as well?" I asked him, trying hard to keep a neutral expression.
Ever since he saved my life, I had found my thoughts drifting to him more times than I was honestly comfortable with. I honestly thought it would go away, probably just a symptom of hero syndrome, but it never did. I saw him everywhere, i even once blurted out "I want a coffee as dark as the eyes of Danksworth". What happened next is honestly not something i wished to talk about, or recall. Ever.
Noah frowned.
"Of course, I mean this was originally his idea," Noah blurted happily, and I felt my face heat as I spluttered everywhere.
"Yeah, but don't get too worked up about it," Kai teased. "Bad for your health." And I glared at him hotly.
"And Luca?" I demanded again after calming my racing heart. And they both nodded.
"Dammit."
